Dwight and Dirk explain in this video why the A-team was cancelled and why they had problems getting hired after the series. The tv networks and movie companies excisted mostly out of democrats.
Everybody knows Hollywood is pretty dominated by liberals. But the A-team was a conservative show and because of that fact the tv network that it was created for hated it, yes their own tvnetwork hated it and liberal organizations in the USA hated it. They didn't like the shows content although all the children loved it and it was the tvnetworks number one show!
Because of that all the actors who played parts in the series during the show and after it stopped experienced problems. It was not because they were typecasted that they couldn't find jobs, no they couldn't find jobs after the A-team because they had all been working in a series that was considered too conservative and because of that they weren't hired.

When I was 13 I was bullied in school. I remember seeing an episode of the A Team where the lads were telling Mexican workers that they could only win if they band together and form a union against their unscrupulous employers. Well I thought that's all very well but how do you band together against bullies if you're alone. It suddenly occured to me that I couldn't be the only one being bullied in my first year. Long story short I found Janet, Peter and Mary and we were friends all through high school. People no longer picked on us because we were always together . Turns out the A Team were right. You do need to band together when you're bullied. The A Team was NOT a bad influence on kids. I know that for a fact.

The A-Team was great, just big harmless fun, almost nobody got killed, the good guys always won, all the exciting stunts and car-jumps and explosions, it's like a perfect 80's Action Movie condensed into a TV show. It really is a shame to hear that Dirk and Dwight were essentially blackballed for being the face (no pun intended) of the cowboy style Reaganism at the time. I thought they were great actors, and it was always a thrill to see Dwight Schultz show up in Star Trek and such because he played the nervous-to-a-fault kinda good guy perfectly. It's really cool to see them really open up with their real feelings about how it went down.

The A-Team is my favorite TV show of all time. I started watching it when I was 10 years old. I became obsessed with it. Dirk Benedict was my first celebrity crush. It's such a shame that so many people tried to take down this show. And to not want to cast the actors in other things because of their affiliation with this show is ridiculous. The entire cast was fantastic. These guys deserved so much better. I sort of wish that fans had a say in what shows should stay on the air. The fanbase of this show is huge. We could have caused a huge riot if we knew what real shit was going down with this show behind the scenes. I'm so glad that the El Rey network shows A-Team reruns. I could watch this show forever!!! 💜

I was born into a diehard democrat family and I enjoyed the hell out of The A-Team, Knight Rider, Airwolf and Street Hawk and most any action show in the 80s that came on the big three networks. I hope that I'd be correct in my assumption that most kids under the age of twelve know or care little about politics. I would think that most kids in that age-range just want some entertainment capable of stimulating their imaginations, and those four shows I mentioned were certainly doing it for me and my grade-school friends at the time. Hearing all of this, about how NBC and Hollywood was back then, is both baffling and saddening. That was not how you treat talent that makes you money and brings attention to your network. The A-Team had the safest, and most unbelievable violence you could find on regular network TV. All that gunfire, explosions and car chases that resulted in so few deaths week after week. NBC really should have been proud of what the cast and producers were accomplishing. It's really confusing why NBC even put the show on the air if it wasn't what they wanted to represent their network, or why they kept it on the air if they wanted it gone. I guess their own greed wouldn't let them just cancel it. I really hope a lot of the old executives have ulcers from what that show accomplished. It would serve them right.

I also want to add, I'm a writer and I see so much yummy stuff in the A-Team, so much stuff peeking out from the curtains regarding the characters' pasts and how the writers could have branched out into those different directions. Murdock was my favorite character for one reason: was he really insane or just really smart? A multi-faceted character that made me ask a million questions Why did he wear the same jacket each episode? A WWII bomber jacket with Da Nang 1970 on the back. in 1970, the Vietcong attacked DA Nang and killed 8 soldiers, so did the jacket represent Murdock's friends who died there? Was the jacket flipping the finger to the Vietcong, or a Stay strong, Da Nang? That in itself was a great "Easter Egg" and could have even had an episode around the Jacket. Why did Murdock work for the CIA and was he still working for the CIA? Was he actually spying on the guys for the CIA and pretending to be insane? But as Hollywood often does, it shots the Goose that Lays the Golden Egg or worse, takes the eggs and makes them into omelets. Too many times the producers of the A team made omelets out of the golden eggs. So much yummy gone to waste. I feel for the whole team. Dwight is right, the producers didn't care about the show. They just tossed stuff on the wall and hoped it stuck. Writing is a breathing living creature that must be treated with respect and love and it will return the favor. The producers just didn't care nad that was a shame. They killed the Goose.

Hello Come Flag With Me! I was reading your comments and I want to say thank you because you gave me some pause for thought in regards to the A-Team and the writing and overall production of the show, especially at the end, from Dwight Schultz and Dirk Benedict POVs. Your comments were truly remarkable and you caused me to do some critical thinking. You said or shared rather that you were a writer. Is that by trade or are you like me, a novice at best and a cynic at worst? If you are either one of those that's okay because I am! But I am also like you in that I am a lover of this classic tv show! These guys, all four of them and yes Eddie Velez who played Frankie Santana in the last years of the show as well as the ICON The Late Robert Vaughn who was a stalkwork in stage and screen of any kind and mostly a guy who just wanted to act (work steady) like all the other of his class of actors, actors NOW, as General Stockwell were looking for the exits along with everyone else at the end. And you are right to point out that the writers and producers of the show left so much out! Didn't take the time to really explore all the golden eggs as you put it or just took the golden eggs smashed a lot up against the wall and made omlets out of um! Sucks rocks. So much was left undiminished. Undone. Or altogether unsaid. Why? It's because everyone gave up! They just gave up. I mean lets face facts for a minute. Show had been on for 6 full seasons with a partial 7th and final season in the can. Everyone associated with or who had been associated with the show had moved on or at least wanted too! Stephen J. Cannel and Frank Lupo were working on other things like Hunter, RIP Tide, Hartcastle & McCormick. Etc. They moved on. Sad. Really. Why leave your baby? Your bread and butter sandwich? Burn out? Bordem? What?! Anyways I think had they had a fresh pair of eyes on it a show like that could have been on for nine or ten seasons. To my mind you just don't give up and that's what everyone did. Sad but true.

The A-Team was one of my favorites. Those shows inspired my fantasy, my creativity, and my view on the society and morale. Which was much better than watching what was going around in my neighborhood. The most important thing is, in the end the bad guys always lose. Gives kids a comfortable feeling that whatever happens there will be a hero who makes everything right in the end. And if you can't find a hero, youself can be that one.

Dirk is totally correct in that Dwight. I thought Dwight should have had a HUGE career after A Team, because of the many personalities he had to play. I never got why ppl hyped up Mr T....Without Murdoch, Mr T does not get angry and threatens him. While Peppard was the main star, each needed each other to make it a big hit. However, Murdoch's acting and Dirk's smoothness, made them very likable characters. Lastly, I wish Dirk also had a better career, since I enjoyed him on A team and before, Battlestar Galactica.

I was 20-something while the A-Team was on. I did nor watch TV then. I really was not a fan. A woman I dated. Her two young sons were fans. That’s where I got my exposure. Here it is 40 years later. I find myself watching the A-Team on METV. Some episodes are familiar. But many are new TV to me. They really should have let the A-Team run longer.

Hysterical parents did the same thing with horror comics in the 50s. Forced children to write letters saying they didn't like horror comics and they were a bad influence. When actually the kids loved the comics and they were harmless. Virtue signalling has always existed for people to use to exert control.

To those who think the show wasn't conservative, they're wrong. the characters supported families and kids, fought against corruption, and exposed crooks. they realized the guys chasing them were inept but they enjoyed making fools out of the inept fools who chased them. it was cartoonish. But the were finally caught by Stockwell.

This is the problem with TV shows today. They are too liberalized, politically-correct, and over-sexualized and yet, people watch them. TV in the 80's was about good vs. bad, right vs. wrong, yet people complained about how violent it was despite the fact moral values were being taught. Parents, encourage your kids to watch DVD's of The A-Team, Knight Rider, Airwolf, Magnum P.I., Simon & Simon, The Dukes of Hazzard, The Incredible Hulk, "CHiPS", MacGyver so that kids will know good from bad.

The A Team. I loved it in the 80's as a kid growing up and I even love it more now in my adult years an absolute iconic series from one of the best decades ever in my opinion. I always loved the fact that these 4 awesome guys always stood up for the truth & what was right to anyone no matter who they were or how dangerous they were definitely my fantastic 4 Heroes. Especially my fan favorite & one of my first tv crush' s the FACE MAN . I absolutely loved Face because of the fact that Hanabail always sent him in on almost all of the dangerous missions to always get whatever the team needed which pretty much always got him captured & Face's life put In danger & even though he complained quit offten to Haniabail about sending him in & putting him in those life threatening situations no matter what Face still always did it usually for the team & to me as a kid growing up that always seemed really coreragous & Heroic & even now as an adult it still does. So even though I like the whole team I absolutely love Face & That's why he was always my favorite team member . And now I can enjoy it anytime I want thanks to the whole complete series DVD set .

It was not the network but the military top brass and the CIA who hated the show. This show was about a groupof renegade soldiers taking on the military top brass. There is one episode in which the house of one of the General's is destroyed by the crossfore between the military and the A team. On the whole it stayed true to the rebellious attitude till th very end. A great show

I had to spend the night with my father in the emergency room. I turned on the television in his little curtained cubicle and found the A-Team. Someone walked by, then backed up. "That's Mr T! What channel is that!" By time my father had been admitted, most of the emergency department had the A-Team on. Thankfully they were showing episodes back-to-back. This was in 2001, so I will not accept that this show was not enjoyed!

No matter what anyone says about the A-Team actors, I like them all. They portrayed what their roles called for. I like watching the A-Team every night. I don't think it is right not to offer them work because of the "series being conservative". They are actors and it is their profession; nothing to do with conservativeness. Quoting "It was created for the TV network that hated it ... because it was considered too conservative." That's not a reason not to hire them. That's foolishness. Oftentimes, some forget the word Karma. Karma always happens.

Dirk appeared in a scene where Face was going o his tanning salon and met Dirk on the way and asked Dirk "This lotion is great for the body, but what about the face?" and Dirk answered "Why mess with it?". In another scene, Dirk receives electric shock therapy and two doctors stand by watching. One of the doctors is Dwight Schulz. Unfortunately, both scenes sadly didn't make it into the movie or the DVD.

I'm a far left individual and I loved 'The A-Team.' It's a great show that knew how to entertain its audience. In fact, I'm re-watching it on the Roku Channel streaming app right now, and it still holds up. And no doubt about it, some self-proclaimed liberals with power back then despised the show for its soft violence. And yes, it was very soft. No one ever bled on that show. That's how soft it was. And while typecasting does happen in Hollywood, Dirk Benedict's ultra conservative politics have zero to do with that. If that were the case, Clint Eastwood, Chuck Norris, Tim Allen, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Selleck, Steven Seagal, and many others would've never gotten any work or had any success. Let's be honest here. Benedict was the weakest link in the show. Tim Dunigan, the guy Benedict replaced because he was allegedly too young looking to be believable as a Vietnam vet, was honestly a better actor, and far more believable as the smooth baby-faced con-man than Benedict was. But Benedict's acting chops weren't bad necessarily. Much like John Wayne, Benedict played himself with zero range. Benedict does a serviceable job, and that's about it. The man is nothing to write home about. Schultz on the other hand has a wide range and can truly sell a performance. That's why he was on 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' and 'Star Trek: Voyager' for several seasons each, was in countless popular television shows, cartoons, and video games, and had a lot more mainstream presence than Benedict overall because of his acting range. Benedict often felt like he was just phoning it in on 'The A-Team,' and never truly felt like he gelled with anyone on screen in the show. So no, I'm sorry Benedict, but your politics didn't reduce your acting gigs, you did because you just weren't that good.

I never felt _The A-Team_ was a right-wing show. They generally drove around helping the little guy against big business. They weren’t concerned too much with making a profit. They just wanted life to be fair. I know a few of the cast members were Republicans but that doesn’t make the whole show right-wing.

For anyone who doubts that what Dwight and Dirk are saying is true just go read what happened to Ed Asner and Lou Grant. They cancelled that show because they didn't like Asner's strong environmental political views. In other words people who hate or tear down someone with different philosophical or political viewpoints are the scum of the earth. The A Team and Lou Grant were classic shows that deserved better!

While I know, in the general context. That the A-Team was not real. In the backdrop of the Vietnam War. I feel it made the show, more than worth watching. Instead of the basic formula of rooting for the good guy(s). It had plenty of adversity, to bolster the story lines. Cancellation was a stupid move on NBC's part.
