As an ET nuke I made E5 in two tears by the re up, then passed the E6 exam by .1 points (I overstudied). That year they rated 125 sub E5s to E6, yea me. Went up for chief and they rated 75 sub E6s to chief, initiation was fun (not). Went up for E8 and they wanted sub ET chiefs for department senior enlisted advisors, new color device. Then my 1st try at 9 they rated 13 and guess who got lucky number 13. So, in 13 yrs and 9 months I was a master chief, all me, no, but I made myself promotable in every way possible and retired in 95 and now am a tax burden who lives comfortably. Go get it!!!

My father joined the Navy as soon as he turned 17, dropping out of high school and became a gunner and by time he was 19 he was and E-6 (GM1) but then this was during World War 2 and there were lots of promotions if you wanted it and worked for it.

Also if you join the Navy 4 years after going in college you can enlist as an Ensign, but excessive training is need so you might be in Officer training for 10 to 13 weeks

or just do rotc and start as 2nd lieutenant when you graduate, or enlist, serve 36 months and then you are eligible for the max amount of the GI bill for you and your spouse and kids, as long as you attend school at least 50.1% of full time you will be eligible, and it can done entirely as online courses, if you attend school fulltime you can get as much as $3000 a month towards school depending on where you are enrolled, and this applies for your kids and spouse as well, you can then re-enlist if you want and be an officer this time.

You can also do NUPOC like I am doing and become E6 if you pass all of your interviews. That being said, it's highly competitive, but worth it if you want to be a college student that will also serve your nation as a commisioned officer after you get your degree.

Made E5 in just under 3 years as a Gunner Mate Guns. Second increment E6 right before I got out, E6 in 4 years 4 months. Trick for me was in getting off a small ship and onto a cruiser. And accepting almost every school or detail offered. A couple of challenging details will offset a few tenths on quals.. Having a mustang CO helps a bit also.

HM1 in 5 but made it off a CMAP on an IA to Afghanistan. Picked up HM2 in 3 years right after I returned from Iraq. Yes, it is possible to make rank as an HM but you have to be motivated. Get your FMF pin if you are FMF and go above and beyond. I was board eligible for HMC in the reserves but ended up commissioning instead and going to OCS and now do something totally different in the Navy. I still enjoyed my time as a Corpsman and my high 3 are still from my time as enlisted.

Former ETR2(ss) - enlisted as E1 in ‘00. Did my time in rate, and promoted to ETR2 at year4/5 on active. Sure, you can get EP’s/MP’s - but won’t make a good LPO or LCPO without actual experience and respect of your colleagues. Qualifications matter too. Earn your warfare pin or you’re a nub!

Yup, it's not What ya know, it's WHO. This goes for everything in life. I made E-4 in the Army in 2-1/2 years because I was "liked" and also did my job well. I worked in S2, Brigade Headquarters back in 61-62 at Ft. Devens. The Sgt. Major (God) put in for my promo. All it took.

@@blxzzardd2378 good stuff, I was third in my class, 1 and 2 were fleet returnees, I got a letter acknowledging my accomplishment and no E4. In a class with 4 fleet returnees, I got 3rd by decimal points. The test I missed a question on had less questions, so my 1 missed question on my test, outweighed the 1 question the other two missed. That was literally the difference in me being an E1 and an E4 out of A. That and my recruiter actually submitting my JROTC paperwork.

I’m joining the reserves as an LS and I have a bachelors degree in Business Management. Choosing LS along with your degree will look good on your resume. Also, logistics is a necessity in basically any job. Therefore, you shouldn’t have a problem finding a job on the civilian side.

just left boot camp march 22nd. i passed the dep advancement quiz, passed my initial pfa (i already got the bonus from it), and i was also told by my RDCs that they've nominated me and 5 others for rank advancements for maintaining leadership positions in bootcamp. but my march LES says that my pay grade is still E1. is that because during bootcamp you still get E1 pay and my next LES will say my true pay grade? how can i verify my pay grade?

my uncle successfully completed it and he was a skinny nerd who took electronic engineering, he was also hired by the navy as a civilian contracter after he decided to retire from the military after about 15 years service. so he was able to make a fair bit of cash then retire from the navy at around 36-37 years old and land a cushy job with them afterwards, also he said the beer in the vending machines on ships in the navy was dirt cheap. This was in Canada tho so not everything is going to be the same, but as far as the officer training program goes i think canada and the US are pretty well on par.

Generally, yes. SO tends to be undermanned, so it is easier to get promoted quickly, because there are more available slots (for E-5 & E-6). Just make sure that you don't f*ck up too much and spell your name correctly on the Rating Exam. By the way, when you get to your first duty station (and after all of the paperwork get to the command), you will, automatically, be promoted to E-4 aka "Push Button Crow."

The title shows "How To PROMOTE FAST In The US Navy E6 in 3 years." So, how do you get promoted to E-6 in 3 years? One rating that I have seen people getting promoted very quickly is MU - Musician. But it is very hard to get that rating (I think you have to audition for it). During the graduation ceremony from boot camp, I saw the MU (in different division) that graduated as an E-5. And after doing some research on it, a musician can enlist into the Navy as high as E-6 (but that person had better be a very talented musician with higher education and a lot of experience). By the way, RATING = Occupational Specialty RATE = Paygrade + Rating. Example: BM3, HM2, SO1, EODC, AMCS, BMCM

Or you could make rank scoring in the top 99 percentile because you know your fucking job regardless of what your command thinks of you and your eval all while watching EP sailors not being able tell the difference between a wrench and screw driver get mapped.
