Fungi can also be used to bury the dead! From mushroom coffins to mycelium suits, the body can decompose much quicker and without polluting the soil with heavy metals and other pollutans (existing in ordinary coffins). This method can be useful in countries like Greece, where cemeteries are running out of space. A faster decomposition means graves are emptying faster making more space for the new dead.

One day I told him it was weird and he threw away all his tractor books and he never mentioned tractors again. Years later we woke up at a houseparty because the host was shouting that her parents were due back soon and the house was a mess. My friend stood up and began inhaling deeply. He inhaled all the ash, smoke and the spilled alcohol then he went outside and exhaled it all into the air. Everyone was amazed and they asked how it was possible. I grow mushrooms as a hobby, and I've noticed that acceptable growing methods have changed dramatically over the past 30 years. People are constantly finding easier and better ways of growing mushrooms and mycelium alike. Like plants, fungi gives us a multi-faceted industry, and we're going to see a large push towards these new ventures, since almost everything surrounding fungi means less pollution and better health. I'm sad to see how psilocybin ventures and associated propaganda are already going the way of big pharma (Dr. Bronner's), but it's much harder to make such a monopoly on mycoremediation and building materials.

Mushroom is also a major source of biofuels. If we use non-edible mushroom grown on contaminated land, it can be used as a source of biofuel. It is said trees communicate with another thru the fungi that connect them. But, I think Fungi are doing the communication for themselves, in their own interest. They use the trees for energy, sugars made by the trees, given to fungi in exchange for water and minerals. But like the nerves in animals, it's the fungi thru their hyphen, that connect up the trees as part of a network, as nerves do with muscles, senses, organs and our brain. It's the nerves and the brain (consisting of the same sort of nerve cells) that contain intelligence and -in humans- consciousness. When trees seem to help each other, like covering over cut-off tree stumps, it's the fungi giving the signal to make that cover (and it's both in their and trees' interest that no bugs or pathogens can enter the network thru that stump) Enfin, I find it's the fungi making use of trees as energy generator instead of the other way round. Fungi aren't as visible as Big trees, so we think, tree must be the dominant partner. Yet they're not.
