What is the BIGGEST Bluegill you have ever caught?
@JonGunnerOutdoors3 ай бұрын
Personal Big Gill not weighed 13 inches. My son and I got on a mess of Gills and the smallest one was 10 inches. Truth! I seen my Grandpa catch one that was 3.25 lb almost 16inches. Grandpa was a Catch and Eat fisherman back in the day. I was just a kid. We found out the next day at the Mepps bait Co that his Gill beat the state record. But it tasted good 😅. That was prob 45 or more years ago on Pelican Lake near Rhinelander.

11”, searching for bigger. What fun catching, taking a pic and putting it back. With all the pressure we need to preserve the species.

That was some great Bluegill fishing. And a bonus Walleye and Drum (Sheepshead for me) Fun watch!

Sheephead - just fry it like you do walleye and you won't regret it! Far as the gills go - wow those were some beautiful males! I love the big ears on those fish!

Great video! Yes, please do a fish sandwich video. I’d really enjoy seeing how you make it. Those monster Bluegills are always a huge treat. I’ve been blessed, over 40+ years, to catch and release 8, 10” or larger Bluegills. The biggest was 11”. I’ve been told that’s as rare as catching 8 Muskies over 50 inches. Fond memories to say the least. Stay safe. God Bless. Thanks for another great video.

Hello, great video. Why is it you don't harvest the black ear tabs? 👍

@@josecamacho8933 big male bluegill dictate the entire size structure of the bluegill population in that body of water. If you keep killing the bigger ones, they get smaller and smaller and smaller overall.

I learned something today. I always thought it was best to release the big females for reproductive purposes and keep the males. Thanks for your reply. Will be subscribing to your channel.

Thanks for sharing! All the gills looked nice. That one was a true trophy!!! How deep was it where you were catching the fish? And how deep did you fish your jig below the bobber? Thanks!
@DWSOutdoors3 ай бұрын
Thanks and I was constantly adjusting for depth changes! If you are looking for bluegills from June - August start at the weed lines and work your way deeper till you make contact.

@@DWSOutdoors Thanks Dave. That is my strategy. Generally I vertically fish for them with a drop-shot rig and crawler chunk. Sometimes I use an ice fishing spoon with a crawler. I rely on my depth finder and usually target the tips of submerged points or sunken islands. Like you, I focus on the deep weed edge. Those were nice fish you had!

A 1.75 lb bluegill is a big one anywhere in the country. I live in Alabama and we have big bluegill but I’ve never caught one that big.

They need to take a lot of blue gill out of that lake every year before the lake turnover with no oxygen kill a lot of fish
