Was nice to see this. I was born in Trieste. Adopted to an American family in 1959. In 2008 I met two sisters and was able to spend time here. Thank you for sharing your time!

Fun fact: when ordering an espresso in Trieste, locals ask for 'un nero' (a black one). You can also opt to have it served in a glass, rather than a ceramic cup. In that case, ask for a 'nero in b'. Also, if you wish a cappuccino, you need to order a 'caffelatte'. In Trieste, a cappuccino ('capo' for short) is an espresso with a tiny bit of steamed milk on top.

Allora il cappuccino a Trieste corrisponde al "caffè macchiato" del resto d'Italia!

Sauerkraut is common throughout northeastern Italy not just Trieste.
@viniciobusaniАй бұрын
Sure, in Trentino-Alto Adige and the Alpine areas near the Austrian border, they definitely eat sauerkraut. But in Veneto, not so much, and even less in Lombardy. In Udine, they do something similar, but they use turnips instead.

Trieste in NOT on the Mediterranean, but on the ADRIATIC.....It's my mother's Hometown as well as the city of my childhood. Lovely presentation of a beautiful and historically significant as well as culturally unique city. I will be visiting family in September after over 4 decades!.😊
