I spent three months as an aupair in Heidelberg this year. I must say it was the best experience of my entire life. The amount of joy and happiness that I've experienced in there was giant. Heidelberg is charming, pretty, young and at the same time old, but of course full of heart.

I had my Erasmus in nearby Mannheim back in 2009. As the Heidelberg is just a 20 min tram ride away, I loved visiting it frequently as the city is definitely a fabulous fairytale like place compared to other bigger industrial cities in that region.

A week ago I was in Paris for the iGEM Jamboree, and I was amazed by the iGEM project by team from Heidelberg. As a high school student, I may apply for Heidelberg University two years later.

Around Heidelburg there are ruins of a castle. There is an old well where the royalty used it for escape if they were taken over by enemies. We took a elevator down to the tunnel and followed it to the woods. It was amazing to imagine that they made it before power tools.

I loved Heidelburg. I remember all the steps and the castle. My Aunt lives in Hamburg. I drove to Heidelburg several times in the 80s and 90s.

Heidelberg is beautiful! Our family has visited many times and studied there. One happy memory is how in the days before cell phones we made a plan, months in advance, to meet a friend on a certain day and time in Heidelberg castle. With no further contact the rendezvous actually worked! And of course, watching The Student Prince in the castle.

That sounds good! Thank you for sharing this Heidelberg memory with us!

Have been. Can confirm, it’s a beautiful city. The university gives it a really young and cosmopolitan feel as well. You also have easy access to beautiful walking in the mountains and woods via the funicular railway. And beautiful boat trips up the river. And, of course, don’t forget the beer ;-)

Heidelberg is awesome. I lived there in the 1970s as a US military dependent and graduated from the former Heidelberg American High School. Out Senior Prom and graduation were held at the castle.,

That must have been a truly memorable prom.

I grew up there. My school was across the street from "Mark Twain Village". We totally took the American parallel society for granted at the time. But now, with many years and miles in between, it seems so odd. Military police and yellow school buses... it's almost surreal.

Not a mention of what many know the city for that could be found in almost every Printing Works in Europe, the Heidelberg platen or flatbed cylinder printing press.

It is not for tax funded DW to publish rose tinted advertorials on Germany. Where are the reports on filthy Frankfurt city centre, or rampant discrimination in housing and labour market?

@@DWTravel I thought Germans hate sugar coating. Why should tax and licence money go in such pointless stuff? So that liberal arts educated Germans can get a welfare job?
