Great insight and education, Rich. Looking to go back and watch those before my time in the months to come. It'd be pointless to give my top 5 of all time having not seen many of the great champs substantially. But in my era, since I started watching boxing heavily, early teens, so let's say early-mid 00s onwards, this is my top 5: 1 Mayweather 2 Pacquiao 3 Marquez 4 Calzaghe 5 Ward I've watched Lewis' career and he'd obviously go in a top 5 that I've seen fight, but I felt it'd be better to go with a top 5 that includes every fighter in a defined period, ie the last 12/13 years only.

Hi Dontae, great video as usual. How do you assess the fight between Pernell Whitaker vs Diosbelys Hurtado? I do believe that Hurtado was winning confortablely until he got knocked out by Pernnel
@jae21ful9 жыл бұрын
Exactly everyone has their own list, it's all personal preference. My top five, #1 Floyd mayweather Jr. #2 Larry Holmes. #3 Willie pep. #4 Pernell Whitaker #5 Ray Leonard. All personal preference, I have a lot of other favorite fighters but these are my all time... and yes I believe Floyd is the best all time. Skills vs skills he would give any welterweight from any era major problems. His ring general ship, footwork/lateral movement, hand speed/timing, counter punching, variety of different punches a two handed fighter with incredible accuracy statistically the best ever, his skills aren't appreciated in today's social media world.

Mad Ting I'm American. What you can't comprehend that people have their own preference? Most people would say names like Ray Robinson, Henry Armstrong, you know guys they've never seen fight before or grew up watching. Example: Dr. J doesn't have Michael Jordan in his top five because he grew up watching Chamberlain, Baylor, Russell, Oscar Robertson. Chances are you probably wasn't even alive when ali fought lol
@jae21ful9 жыл бұрын
MrPelavacas well (my) opinion is the only one that truly matters at the end of the day. I didn't pick these fighters based on someone else's assessment or opinion, like most people do. For instance, just because a sports writer or a espn analysis says on tv that Ray Robinson is the best all time doesn't mean I'm going to actually believe that. majority of people rank certain athletes that they've never seen or grew up watching. So who is on your top five?
@MrPelavacas9 жыл бұрын
Dude sorry for the rudeness, but there's a thing called video, we dnt have to live in the past to realize, it's just facts man, by the way why would you put Floyd first, he's not top 20, n u have Holmes but not Ali, there's never been a heavyweight like Ali in the history of pro boxing man
@jae21ful9 жыл бұрын
MrPelavacas when you say Floyd isn't top 20 that's your opinion, earlier comments I mentioned various skills Floyd possesses which very few fighters have, So that's one reason. Main reason is because of Floyd's dominance, how many times has Floyd been knocked down? How wide has his victory margins been? Arguably the most accurate while at the same time the hardest to hit, isn't that the name of the sport? And he's the best at doing it. Majority of fighters he's faced were much bigger than him. Hernandez only 1 career loss undefeated at 130 hall of famer vs Floyd with only 16 fights. Corrales 33-0(26ko) arguably the hardest puncher in boxing at that time, Floyd's first fight at lightweight against lineal champ Castillo 45 wins 41 ko. not so prime Oscar however Floyd giving up a lot of weight and also forced to wear heavyweight ten ounce gloves! He makes virtually every fight look easy, who else can say that. Ali can't, he's even come close to losing to guys like Chuck webner a bum, plenty of other great fighters have look terrible against lower opposition or lost to lower opposition so you can't make the excuse the only reason why he's undefeated or makes it look easy is because he fights bums.

Willie Pep is a name that should be on floyd's list. However, "Fluid" is the key word here to me. The Ali against Cleveland Williams was the most fluid boxer I've ever seen. Ali introduced a new type of style to the heavyweight division and is therefore the greatest imo. The jab, lean back and overhand straight right counter is a sight to be seen and befuddled the best. The second most fluid move is the lead straight right from across the fuckin ring of roy jones followed by a duck under the counter. Floyd does it 90% as beautiful as roy, made marquez trip over his feet so fluid.

Tony Perez was the referee for Ali-Frazier II, not Carlos Padilla. Ali rocked Frazier in round 2 and thought he had an opportunity to score a KO. Ali was critical of Perez's handling of that moment and called Perez a dumb Puerto Rican or something of that nature. Perez actually sued Ali over that remark.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned that the list of his top 5 was compiled from a list of like 10 names that he seemed to not have picked? Robinson and Greb etc weren't even in there of choices for him to make the list from...

1TonneDown Actually, i don't know that Floyd knows this. He's ignorant enough to know nothing about boxers from eras that far back. Notice that he does not have anyone from times before his father and uncle boxed.

Yup, that's what I've noticed for a while, he's weird, when he speaks boxing history u can tell his overview knowledge is very limited and he twists the facts, it's like his way of seeing boxing history, his opinion, he's a weirdo cuz if you check the facts what he says is all lies, the beaten champs, pacman has about the same, titles,lineal as well, in different divisions, pacman has more,the being champ for 18-20 years is also a complete lie, he's not even close, the ppv buys, pacman also surpassed, they even share the biggest ppv fight as we know, I mean it's almost scary when you actually question mays resume and u find out almost 100% of it has been equaled or plain out surpassed, plus 49-0 that he's trying to surpass is a heavyweight record, its cuz his fans just take his word for all the bs he spews n never actually check the facts, n boxing keeps backing him up now n not speaking the truth cuz hey he makes them good money

I was unaware that 33 year olds are essentially 100. If that's the case, Rocky only being 31 is comparable to a 90 year old fighting.

Just ask the question, how would Sugar Ray Robinson's career have been different if they had fought indoors instead of in 100+ degree weather.
@boxingisthebomb50509 жыл бұрын
to be the best you need to be in your prime longer than 3 years...you have to be dominant for way more years...mike tyson is no where near the top 10 of all times.. if you are already on the decline at age 24..then you have no business being on the top 10 list... Lennox Lewis is over Mike Tyson any day...avenged his 2 losses and fought top opposition till the end and won... thats a man who deserves a top 10 spot...

@ Dwyer , I know you have many good videos but Floyd is a mainstream hype and he is the judges' darling. yes Floyd has a great defence but Floyd can't KO nobody in the last 10 years! what is that? great? Floyd gets several gifts from the judges in controversial fights. he wins on points when the fight was a draw (for example his fight vs Pac was a draw). Floyd's offensive skills are pretty poor compared to other great boxers. Floyd cant hurt old Pac but he thinks he is the best?? LOL. I dont give a fuck for Floyd's list where he thinks that HE is Nr. 1 of all time. Floyd is a mainstream hype, he has great defence but relative poor offence and he will never be the best

Sean BTHEBEST like I said before; I admit that Floyd has a great defence. But his offensive skills are NOT great because he cannot dominate his opponents and he could not KO them in the last 10 years. his attacks are pretty rare and mediocre. mainstream media praises Floyd for not getting KOd but the media never mentions Floyd's mediocre offence
