DX-TV RTE 1 TECHNICAL INFORMATION BROADCAST (1983)

This was received on CH-H in band 3 in 1983 and was a regular visitor.
At the time our 405 line system was still in operation and our local CH B12 ON 209.75 CH-H ON 207.25.
The B12 vision had to be filtered out so i had a self built tuner unit with two PHILIPS G8 tv selectivity modules which resulted in slight reduced definition.

Oh God I remember those broadcasts as a teenager in the 1980s. I was glued to them during my school holidays. There was no internet so it was the source of info. I remember the radiant blue screens and the still photos of guys on top of mountains too. Thanks for posting the video.

The RTÉ Guide is dated Friday, April 20th 1984, so this broadcast would be from the previous Tuesday, 17th April 1984.

@tubedougz yeah, used to love finding 'Newcomers' on RTE - unbilled but broadcast for people in the trade or something. It was great finding adverts or programmes you weren't supposed to see!

The BBC also ran Service Information on BBC2 for a number of years, mostly between 1978 and 1983 before and after Play School at 10.30 or 11.30am. I know it was dropped in 1983 and went onto Pages from Ceefax after that apparently. Thank you for the RTE information here-this is the first time I have seen it and would like to say how interesting I found it too. Well done!

The Independent Television Authority (renamed as the Independent Broadcasting Authority from 1972 with the impending launch of Independent Local Radio) also ran Engineering Announcements on ITV from November 1970 until May 1983, then on Channel 4 and S4C from May 1983 until the programmes' end in July 1990 as the IBA wound down.

Actually the service information ended in December 1982 as far as I have read, after which it was shown on Ceefax. Thank you of course anyway!!

Actually the 405-line broadcasting in the Republic of Ireland ceased on the 23rd of November 1982.

This was from late 1984 or 1985 because the graphics are blue background & yellow fonts.

I've read elsewhere that 405 could be recorded onto VHS if one could extract the composite video signal from a 405 TV, but this was all before my time (I wasn't born in 1985) so can't say I've ever tried it! Pity you threw those sets away btw :)

Watching this I could hear chittering in the back ground quite faint Did anyone else notice this?

It's possible it could be BBC 1 405 ch 12 as i used 2 notch filters to remove the ch 12 vision also it could be frequency mixing as live 1km from a pmr station and i used to get odd transmissions affecting band 1-3 when their tx's fired up.

No! I dont know if a video recording would work as i never tried to,Now i wish i had but i think if we had the technology we have it might be possible. There's a site called 405 alive and they have a lot of info. i threw two dual standard sets away last year as i needed the space. andy

Ireland are supposed to be starting digital later this year but anything can happen but firm dates yet. andy

Yes it would probibly work it's a pity i didn't try it but we only think of things like that when its too late. andy
