Thanks @photojoseph! I’ve been using DxO PhotoLab for a while now and I just learned a whole lot of useful stuff I didn’t know from watching that video! Looking forward to watching all the other tutorials now!! 👍🏻

As a new PL user, I found PL8 has a steep learning curve for the couple of hours but wow, it really is excellent! PL really brings out the best in my Canon 6D images. I particularly value the ability to fully tailor the Customise editing interface to one's own requirements. Also, the Fuji Velvia simulation/rendering is superb. It's really nice to find Velvia bundled into PL8, since it's my favourite film, harking back to the film era when I began photography. Thanks for this useful overview, and for your clear explanatory videos on the DXO site; they really help someone new to Photolab.

Thanks @photojoseph for the Videos (Glad you're back with DXO) I always say it in FB groups, I moved fully to DXO Photolab thanks to your videos many many years ago :) One annoying difference between PC version and MAC one is the filtering, in MAC I have to click on the menu, choose untagged, then click to select another filter.... On PC, I used to click on the filter menu and tick/untick as much options as I want
@photojoseph4 ай бұрын
That’s so awesome to hear! Interesting difference; I’ve never used the PC version more than for a few screenshots. Have you communicated this to DxO?

Just got PL8 and now that it handles R5 MkII files WOW. I still go in and out of LrC for its management and filter photos (by type/camera/etc) but...... Wish PL8 had better sharpening though as in T PAI. Love that you can now see your NR in a loupe on the photo instead of just in the tiny window.
@photojoseph4 ай бұрын
Awesome, welcome to PL8! Yeah a great sharpening algorithm would be sweet.

@@photojoseph I was a PL7 user and also am a Beta tester for PR4. Seems there are some interface differences between Mac and Windows i.e I don't see the sidecar at the bottom of the customize window.

@alankefauver6187 you mean when I’m showing the .dop file appear? That’s just in a macOS Finder window, not in the app.

I have downloaded the free trial as I'm considering a Lightroom Classic replacement. I absolutely love many of the features, but I really wish they would add AI masking. I appreciate the purist approach, but when editing wildlife photos or weddings, speed and workflow are also concerns. For me personally, I would also like to see a little cleaner layout of the tools. I find myself struggling to see the current layout. This is my plea to have these things addressed as I would love to make the switch. I would also like to see previews with the noise removal and more functionality with plugins I use (i.e. Topaz Photo AI, Luminar Neo). Thank you for the great video!

The only thing that would impress me and have me dropping every other program for Photolab is if photolab had a AI precision masking tool, the other apps have it, but photolab is still behind in this? Why? It’s frustrating to see them focus on every other feature expect for AI masking. What’s the point of all these features if I can’t easily make a targeted selection?
@photojoseph4 ай бұрын
Fair enough. The AI masking in Lightroom is quite good.

Can you just use the noise reduction only and export a DNG to another photo editor for processing like you can if you buy the stand alone noise reduction program? Thanks

yes you can! Sorry for the delay; I had to get a non-beta serial number and try it to make sure!

Not having to import was my favorite part of DXO. Want to try version 8, but can't connect to the licensing server to trial it...
@photojoseph4 ай бұрын
That’s weird. But just download the trial as a new user?

I had previous PL versions but didnt like how it's highlight recovery slider would target gamma, rather than highlights and wash out images and moved to another raw editor. Does the highlights slider still target the same range?
@photojoseph4 ай бұрын
I’m sure it does. But if you don’t like how the highlights slider works, the curve should give you complete control - especially with the new Luma curve option.

Does PL8 now include luminosity masking?
@photojoseph3 ай бұрын
Yes, Luminosity Masking was actually added quite some time ago. Maybe PL6?
@johnhubble51563 ай бұрын
@@photojoseph I have both PL6 & PL7 but to access luminosity masks I would need to have purchased filmpack. Hence my question are luminosity masks now an integral part of PL8?
@Linesgraphics3 ай бұрын
Hue Mask is integral but you still need to buy Filmpack to get Luminosity Mask.

I’m just rebooting my photography skills (used to shoot chrome on Nikon back in the 90s) and I’ve switched to Sony - specifically for video - but I did by the A1 and a set of GM lenses - and I don’t wanna pay subscriptions 🤬 so I’m definitely moving over to DXO… ONE Question: I have the option to run this on OLED Asus Windows PC or a M1 MacBook Pro… wonder which handles “still” editing… best?

Hi Joseph, thanks for all your videos. Do you know why PL8 does not fit my MacBook Air 13" screen? It overlaps on both sides.
@photojosephКүн бұрын
Interesting. I just looked up the minimum requirements and resolution of the MBA13 display. The screen is retina 2560 x 1600 so 1280x800 equivalent. PL8 minimum resolution is 1280x768 so that fits, but I wonder if they intend it to be cut off? Recommended is 1920x1080. Try changing your display resolution; there should be an option to set to a higher resolution - more on screen but smaller - and see how that works.
@garycralle769620 сағат бұрын
@@photojoseph Thank you. A MacBook Air only allows 4 resolution choices. 1680 X 1050 is the closest I can get to what I would like. Not the best, but it'll do for short periods of editing.

Is it possible to bring the image from Lightroom into DXO PhotoLab 8?
@photojoseph4 ай бұрын
There’s a plugin that gets installed in Lightroom Classic when you install PhotoLab that gives you an “open in PhotoLab” menu option.
@scottallen81744 ай бұрын
@@photojoseph Awesome thank you!
@kevinl14922 күн бұрын
Lightroom and PhotoLab can read the image labels such as color label and ratings that were written to the sidecar file by the other app. So, if you import into LR, process in PhotoLab and add labels, when you go back to LR, it gives you the option to import those updated labels. That way you know which images you rated as keepers in the catalogue (2 stars, 3 stars etc.) It does not import the PhotoLab adjustments. That is a separate process. Useful if you use both systems.
