It was written as a tribute to Jacques Coustea host of "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau", A TV show back in the 60's & 70's and his boat was called "Calypso".

I believe this song was in honor of Jacque Cousteau who was an ocean explorer in the 50’s thru 80’s(?) and his ship was named Calypso. I think Jacque came up with the original SCUBA gear to breath underwater.
