Dye Sublimation on MDF

In this video I'm using my CNC to cut out some US states from MDF then using dye sublimation to transfer very old family photos on them.

finally someone just put the laminate just on the top of it without wrapping it to the back. i was going to try this but now that i seen it works thats the way i will do it.

Do you think you’ll need some kind of top coat to protect the images? Alternately, could you transfer the images directly to the mdf, then apply the laminate film on top of the images?

Is that just regular lamination that you put on that MDF?
