Dye test reveals Broken underground pipe

In this video we can see how aggressively the water is leaving the pool through the broken pipe. The dye is sucked I. Very quickly.

This pool was recently renovated and evidently this pipe was cut during the process. The amount of water going out of the pipe was well over 1000 gallons per day as the level would drop 3-4 inches daily

@@JUNEBUGLLC If you measure from the top of the deck down to the level of that jet which should be 18 to 24 inches the pipe will be at that depth, or close to it

Look at the joint where the skimmer butts up to the actual foundation of the pool......thats where i found major water leak from setteling.....I used waterproof loctite for watercrafts....its tuff to use or manipulate but put as much as u can deep into the joint come back and check it and apply a second layer to look as finished as possible..let completely dry a couple days...maybe 3 days...then good to go....

This one has been a nightmare for the homeowner. This is a remodel gone wrong. They added to the pool, doubling the size. The old and new are settling at different rates, causing many leaks. The builder that did the work is now out of business. It seems that every time he fixes one leak another shows up. Lesson here is to tear out the old and never try to double the size by adding on to the old

Might be your suction line on the return to the equipment. Run multiple test including hydrostatic test with pressure gauge and test plugs

Pumps all off and this was a return line. Pool was remodeled two years ago, the builder literally added a second pool to the original. This has caused so many problems with leaks. We currently have the pumps to the new half shut down because there is another leak. Best we can tell is the new side is settling causing lots of issues. The builder is out of business so the homeowner is in a pickle trying to get it fixed.

That’s a pipe for a jet. The water comes from the pump through the pipes. There is no hole in the side. The fact that 4 people agreed with you is travesty.

@BrianBourgeois- a* Anyways. It's "a" travesty that you haven't figured out that usually at the end of a pipe is a hole! If that is a jet, then the water is moving in the wrong direction! If it's an intake for a jet, then it's doing its job, and this video is pointless....

This is truly what happens when there is a crack or broken pipe in the pool. We turn off the pumps so that no water is moving. Then we squirt dye in front of all the jets, lights, skimmers and anything else that penetrates the structure. If there is a leak, it will draw in the dye just like you see in the video. This one was extreme, thus the excitement in my reaction.

Yes sir good eye. Funny thing is we were there to clean the pool and the owner had mentioned the pool was losing water like crazy. So we used what we had to check it out. In Texas the average leak test will cost 4-5 hundred dollars. Then it’s an additional charge to make the repair. Most repairs can be made in 5-6 hours depending on the location of the leak. I would suggest that you be there when they test the pool. Talk to the tech, and hear what’s he’s saying. Is he only talking about the money, or is he talking about what he’s going to do to fix it. Also ask friends with pools, they are the best source for finding good companies. Everyone will tell you who NOT to use.

Call around or look up swimming pool leak repair companies. And also ask around, many people have had a leak fixed. The average in Texas is 4-5 hundred for the locate and about 150/hr to make the repair. Average repair of a pipe under the deck is 5-6 hours

In most cases the next step would be to call a leak repair specialist. Used to do it, but not anymore. They will pressure test the system, and using special microphones locate the exact spot where the pipe is broken.

Yes for sure. I began helping customers with pool leaks around 2004. I had a pair of the old stethoscope style headphones. I loved letting the customers put them on to hear for themselves. The look on their face when they heard the bubbles was priceless.

Normally the dye would just float in the water. Any time there is a leak in the pool it will draw the dye into the crack. The dye just makes it visible

The video doesn’t show that the pool pump is off and no water is moving. The dye test shows that water is moving, and moving the wrong way! It would normally be coming out of the jet, instead it’s being drawn in. Since the water level is dropping daily, this provides visual proof of the approximate location of Leak.

The only reason the dye was going into the pipe is because there is a broken pipe. Normally it gently draws it in, this one was extreme. Thus the excitement in my reaction.

This was probably one of the worst leaks I’ve run across. A typical leak, with a cracked pipe, will cause a pool to lose One inch or more in a day. This is approximately 600 gallons, so you can see why the dye seems to be moving like it is.
