Your roving was still so fluffy. Would have liked to see a bit more of the washing process and how you dried it. Lovely job.

@@KendraMakes Yes, thanks! Your video helped me more than some of the more 'official' videos out there from dye companies. I just did my first dye pot dye with roving and the whole thing felted. )-: I love the simplicity of your method but wonder about quantities (roving weight vs water and fixer amount).

That is really beautiful dyed fiber and yarn; thank you for sharing this information. I have dyed roving many times in a crockpot with the temperature barely at a simmer, but my roving never turns out "soft and fluffy" as you say yours does. It seems to want to stick together more than before dyeing, although it is not felted. I cannot spin it without first carding, which often destroys the effect I'm trying to get. Do you know what might be causing this?
@KendraMakes5 жыл бұрын
Are you letting it cool down all the way on its own? Or handling it too much during rinsing? Any time there is a temperature change plus agitation it will start to felt so really requires a delicate hand!

This is already spun as you can see from the ending and I didn't take any footage of the actual spinning unfortunately!! Working on a spinning video with some different fibre though :)

Ma'am what is the best skin friendly dye for wool
@camybastias73804 жыл бұрын
Hola, que tipo de colorante usaste?
@phoebebaker15753 жыл бұрын

That was so cool! I want to get a few few colors and try dying. I think i would buy undyed yarn instead of using my roving. I’m afraid i’ll mess it up lol.
@KendraMakes5 жыл бұрын
If you get superwash, either yarn or roving it takes a lot of the risk out of it!! Hope you give it a try, it really is a lot of fun!
@sabrinasloth79404 жыл бұрын
love it! for pastel colors which brand do you recommend best?
@KendraMakes4 жыл бұрын
All my dyes are either dharma or pro chem and haven’t found many differences between them. When I have dyed pastels I just dilute the colour to get a really light shade before adding it to the fiber rather than a specific brand.

I tried this and can’t tell if I accidentally felted the roving. I haven’t started pulling apart yet as it is drying, but if I did partly felt, what should I expect to see with the roving? Will I not be able to pull apart.
@KendraMakes3 жыл бұрын
Oh no! If it is partly felted I would just pull the fibres apart as much as possible prior to spinning. If it is truly felted it will become like a solid tube.

Hi Kendra, I am brand new to dyeing and I have found that my fiber has become rougher and does not spin as smoothly after it was dyed. Is it expected because:It has a bit of felting or the fibers are no longer in the same direction so it spins wollen? Thanks!
@KendraMakes3 жыл бұрын
I think it’s common for the fibers to pull together a bit but you should be able to fluff them back up once dry. If it’s not spinning as smoothly it did likely felt a bit during the due process.
@kernicholson3 жыл бұрын
@@KendraMakes is there any way to fix it? Like carding? If it partly felts but not all the way?

what type of soap should i use to wash the dye from the rinse ? ive heard dish soap works well for removing fibre reactive dye but im not sure about the acid dye
@KendraMakes5 жыл бұрын
You can check the website if the place you get your dyes from to see if they give any direction- I think Jacquard and dharma both suggest using Synthrapol or mild detergent. I have tried a few different soaps but usually if the colour is exhausted well I try to rinse in water with a final rinse in eucelen since that I what I have!
