I spent a good ten minutes trying not to get my hopes up that one of those beautiful red skeins was mine, so imagine my glee when I finally opened the bag at the reveal shot and saw pink! I think I have the 0.5% DOS of straight Cherry Bomb. It has some fun resist points near the ties, precise specks of white at one tie and mottled splotches by the others. Love it!

Oh my, look at those colors! I think I have the 0.0625% green, 0.5% black... It looks black at first glance, but then you can see some of the green under tones.

It was SO FUN to see how things shifted. I'm really happy to know that if I want mossy "dirty" greens I should go with yellow and black. Or for browns orange and black is a good starting place.

Jacquard Burnt Orange (which is the same exact dye as Dharma Saffron Spice, so either one) mixed with Jacquard Royal Blue makes gorgeous rusts and browns.

The orange and black made some nice browns but have you done a video mixing the different rainbow colors with their complements - i.e. red with green, yellow with purple and blue with orange ( my favorite is cerulean blue with orange to get beautiful coppery browns (at least that is what comes out with fiber reactive dyes, haven't tried the acid dyes yet.

I'm catching up on some videos I missed before Christmas. Oh boy, you have outdone yourself o this one. Congratulations. It's a spectacular effort and I'm not surprised you ended up with a sore wrist. Every dyer I know would like to do this, but finding the time is so hard. Your warning to look after ourselves is also great to hear. A great hand dyer here in Australia has had to stop dyeing early this year, because of lung issues. Very sad.

This great video gives me a good framework to start making my own dye encyclopedia from my full set of Dharma Lanaset dyes. I bought the Deb Menz book of dyeing for spinning years ago, but could never get up the initiative to dive into dyeing up a bunch of samples. I love the framework you used and could see this as a way of breaking it down into manageable units. The thought of having my own color factory is quite motivating 😃.

there is something incredibly zen about watching you do these gradients. i greatly respect the attention to detail (and patience) that is required for such a thing... and you did it multiple times!!! sheer madness! have you tried steam setting inside the plastic containers? i did it once using a steam basket inside my dyepot so the plastic was not in direct contact with the pot. a bamboo mat or something similar might work in your flat dye pans.
@ChemKnitsTutorials
@ChemKnitsTutorials 2 жыл бұрын
This is something I probably could do, but I don't think I could fit more than 3 of these containers in my steamer basket at once. I don't THINK they'd melt (since you can technically microwave in them) but Space constraints have been a concern.

This video wad AMAZING! I loved to mix my own colors and I have not added black to colors, yet. I usually use primary colors that are consistent across manufacturers. I think Dharma's acid dyes could be sun yellow, golden yellow, turquoise, magenta or fuchsia, a greenish blue (cobalt or cerulean), maybe a warm red. Add a brown and true black. I am more familiar with pro chem wash fast acid dyes. I love the colors and I think I will attempt orange and black. How did you come up with the dilution progression? The only other dyer I know (besides me) is Carol Soderlund at Pro Chem. I really want to take her workshop.

I made it up for the Blue video from SMSMS and I talk more about it there, too. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ime3fH-qlpaWi9E I knew for the blue I wanted to do serial dilutions starting at a 1% DOS, but then for the black I wanted to be light enough so I could see the blue through all of the colors but still show a nice range. I likely looked back at the math of yarn dyeing to help make that decision, too. I'm sooo happy this range worked so well for all of the colors!

I normally like cherry bomb but I think now it was for dry powder stuff and not stock solutions. I like Jacquard Fire Red, that one behaves pretty well I think. The Dharma fire engine red(I think that's the name) I got had a ** because it was from a "bad batch" and it is a pretty color but smells a bit like paint or something. I need to do a red red red video sometime.

Thank you, Ellen. I don't ever try to duplicate someone else's colorways because I try to always make them my own. (it is a huge complement when someone compares a yarn I dyed to one of Malabrigo's!) Occasionally things may end up similar because of chance but I do try to always put my spin on things.
