I love this colorway! I see so many dyers trying to get rid of all the white and covering it up with color and I hate that. I love contrast and this violet to purple to white has the perfect amount of white. I can see crocheting something with this colorway and you have enough speckles and color along with the white that nothing will get lost in a crochet pattern.

Lovely yarn! My perception of it is definitely purple on lavender-pale lavender, to be sure, but distictly lavender. My friend Jennie and i are so looking forward to joining you for Chanukah Day One. We'll meet up, go out for brunch, sit around chatting and watching some videos, waiting eagerly until we get to watch you dye our yarn as we open our first mini-skeins. After that, we'll pig out on latkes and pass out in a happy carb stupor. Can't wait!

Shalom Rebecca, I want to thank you for your videos. I recently came across a cowl pattern that uses color work that I really liked. The Artic Doodle by Jamie Lomax, and I really wanted the colors she paired with the pattern. I didn't have either the colors or the weight of yarn she used, so I looked online for the yarn, only to find out that the set was $130.00. I can't afford to spend $130 for A cowl. lol( No shade to the dyer, I'm sure the yarn is worth that much.) But then I remembered your videos and decided I could make up the colors I wanted. I needed two colorways with light, medium, and dark tones. I used a couple of bare DK swish skeins I had and Wiltons color gels. The yarn came out exactly as I wanted except the darkest of the plummy purple which was not a dark as I wanted. I then remembered your videos on glazing so I re-dyed that one with a glaze of blue with a little pink and it came out perfect. So my cowl will now cost me less than $25 and I don't have to wait for the yarn to ship. Yippee!!! So thank you and I am looking forward to unwrapping the Hanukkah advent this week.

It's really pretty just as it is, but when you were talking about overdyeing it, I first thought pink, but then it occurred to me that a very pale caribbean blue strikes me as being along the lines of sky blue and would fill the spaces really nicely on that. And lace weight. that might be the yarn weight I'm looking for when I start trying to use wool yarn, I want to try tablet-weaving borders right onto my clothing and it feels like that might be the right thing. I feel like cotton would immediately disintegrate with wear.

If you used far less liquid to have the yarn laying in,would the speckles turn out sharper and spread less?

… I am thinking that, perhaps, the way to get what you wanted would have been to do the background, base colour first, then do the speckles over the top, maybe???

It is possible, however there is so little twist in the yarn, and with the yarn being non-superwash - I think we would have end up with spread even with less water in the pan. There is a chance if I did countertop speckles (so super low water) and then steamed - which often results in sharper speckles - I might see more defined speckles here. But I think that the dyes just wick into the yarn and spread out a bit.
