DYI camper van build: Installing a sportsmobile swivel seat base on Ford Econoline.

In this video I will show you my latest edition to my DYI stealth camper van build. I use my van for everything from hunting and fishing to trail running, mountain biking and off grid camping. It offers a cheap solution to hotels while allowing me to maximum the time I can spend in the wild. The best part is that it doesn't look like a camper if I want to crash in town its easy to blend in.
In this episode I install a swivel seat base from Sportsmobile. I picked it up on black Friday with a steep discount. The install was literally 8 bolts and took less than a half hour. This was a great addition and will utilize space more efficiently. The only thing that kept me from this project was the price of the base. Otherwise I wish that I had done this years ago.

Nice video, just a thought you can lube up the tracks on the original seat sliders with grease perhaps to assist with the gliding and sliding to maneuver easier 🤔

Great improvement. Doing same on my 2000 e150 for pass side only. Using a sportsmobile mount i took from a junk van. I think any old motorhome has swivel chairs so they should be easy to find used. I see you only use state of the art tools. 😂

When you plugged the wire connector in at 10:50, it didn't look like it would be long enough to stay connected when the seat is swiveled to face the cargo area, did it work ? Thanks

Nope! Good catch. If I want it working I need to unplug and plug in after I swivel

No. The install did not require me cutting any carpet.

Yegwear Mine was just a plastic clip on with a lip you had to push up and it came apart

Thanks for watching. The only reason I got mine from Sportsmobile was because of the holiday sale. I still felt it was over priced but I had no idea where else I could get one. I’d still like to put one in the driver side. If you have another source for these swivels for a 1998 350 please share. The concept is awesome. The expense, not so much.

Hey besides the obvious swinging, does this make the base any wider than the original. I ask because I have a dometic fridge right between the 2 seats in my ford econoline and if it gets any bigger, like even a half inch it wont fit. I'm thinking pull the fridge out and just keep the seat backwards until someone else is going on a roadtrip with me which only happens every once in a while

The only thing that sticks out on the side towards the middle is the release handle. It does not extend past the seatbelt housing. This is a pedestal style seat rather than the box style frame I removed so there is actually more room under the seat.
