I don’t think there is anything more generic than zombies in entertainment. It’s horror as old as the genre itself, much like the vampire, the slasher, and the ghoul. But zombies have been seen in gaming far more than others in its field. Stubbs, Resident Evil, Left 4 Dead, Back for Blood, just to name a few. Now just because these games are part of an oversaturated subgenre does not mean that they are inferior to any competitors or lesser than a game in any other genre, but it’s important to establish just how many zombie games are out there. You wouldn’t be wrong to think that developers have probably done everything. I mean, gameplay-wise you are put in fight or flight scenarios and almost every game saw you fighting, and doing so with engaging mechanics. Those that saw you opting for flight due to lack of resources or ways to defeat your undead foe saw you high tailing it in the other direction with minimal depth, just running and maybe jumping a few places. It’s surprising then, that it wasn’t until 2015 that Techland developed Dying Light, a game that features fight or flight like many of its predecessors but puts extra focus on the latter, leading to a game that garnered mainstream success and a cult following years after.
Dying Light 7 Years Later. Dying Light is one of the most memorable zombie games I've ever played. In this Dying Light critique, we will be covering the game from top to bottom and this Dying light analysis will not include a dying light 2 review. If this dying light retrospective is received well then I would love to make a dying light 2 critique. This video can also satisfy anyone looking for a Dying Light story summary. Dying Light - 7 Years Later is still a masterpiece. dying light 2 and specifically dying light 2 gameplay have made me appreciate the first dying light and Dying Light The Following a lot more and I think you will see why when I get to the dying light the following review at the end of this video. I hope we see more dying light in 2022 outside of its sequel. Perhaps this year I will make a dying light stay human review which would compliment this dying light review and subsequently, the dying light ending explained. I talk a lot about the Dying Light Lore and I hope the Dying Light Lore Explained how great this game is from a world-building perspective.

@@timfrank7461 how so? It is fictional but would this scenario not play out in the real world? I mean residential evil and other zombie games are just too unrealistic. But dying lights story seems the most realistic. I mean hello bioweapons already exists. Who says they can’t get a different strain of rabies (which is deadly to both humans and animals) and do bio warfare. It’s unlikely but it does exist in the possibilities in our actual world. It wasn’t the best story but I enjoy it way more than DL2

One time when my sister and brother-in-law came over to my house, I showed them the game and everything and my sister was like "Jesus I don't want to play that at night." so, close to dawn, I removed the music from the game and put "Yakety Sax" on KZbin, I went to the streets after the volatiles and as soon as dawn came they ran to the caves, escaping, and I beating them with an iron pipe and a piece of wood on it's back while that song was playing, screaming "payback's a bitch, ain't it?" like Russel Casse in independence day. We pissed ourselves laughing so hard.

When this dropped in 2015, it was a breath of fresh air, a mix of open world, zombies and parkour, plus the story wasn't too shabby and the combat and skill system was interesting. The following was just an icing to the cake introducing a brand new map with great quests and buggies.

The game itself is at best mediocore, that`s why it never made into a "Best of". The only thing the game actually has is the "open world" aspect with parkour involved in a zombie apocalypse. Dying Light did something that very few zombie games do. They made their zombies scary. In the Dead Rising or State of Decay series you literally just mow down hordes whereas if I see 3 or more viols coming for me I just run… and I don’t think any game I’ve ever played has a horror section of the game quite like the night time of this game. I truly feared it. When they give you the job of restarting electrical fuse boxes at night I genuinely got so stressed at trying to finish the quest while doing it before the sun came out and not getting caught because I was shitting myself

I’ve found that State of Decay two in particular hits a good balance. On the easier difficulties all zombies, including the special infected don’t feel like a huge threat. But you turn up the difficulty and you eventually get to the point where stealth is feasibly the only option if you don’t want to die a horrible death. The Standard difficulty is great for people wanting a Third-Person shooter zombie survival game. The Lethal difficulty is great for people wanting a Third-Person shooter stealth shooter with certain situations making your anxiety go through the roof. I find that those two difficulties is the feelings I get during the Day and Night of Dying Light respectively. It is a fun First-person Zombie shooter during the day. And the reason why I wear brown pants during the night.

Weaknesses? Nah. In that world, if someone isn't consistently useful to you, they're only dangerous to you. Having watched this and your video on Sleeping Dogs, I think it would be awesome if you made a video about Days Gone. The thing I liked least about dying light is, perhaps surprisingly, the grappling hook. It completely trivializes movement, taking away the fun of parkouring all across the city and instead turning it into a point to click experience to get from point A to B. This also seems to be the point where my friends stopped having fun with the game as well, continuing only out of a sense of obligation to reach the credits. One may argue that you dont have to use the grappling hook, but unfortunately we players are prone to optimising the fun out of the experience.

one thing that made esp the end-game more engaging and worked around the Agility-experience issue you mentioned for me was the fact that im extremely reluctant to use things that get consumed. in practice that means that i would almost never use a melee weapon, and a gun only on goons or humans, resorting to getting an enemy to the ground and then finishing them for everything else. this made the combat-encounters much more calculated, as a finisher also leaves you unable to move for a second. the specific placements and formations of biters had to be analysed and taken advantage of.

I personally loved the story of dying light. I loved Kyle's character who showed a lot more development than most gaming protagonists nowadays. I thought he was witty, and he made me laugh more than a handful of times. I also thought the story went perfectly hand in hand with the world you were in during the whole game. That whole "dying light is great but the story sucks" argument is so overdone and people just need to appreciate it for what it is rather than saying the exact same shit everyone else has already said 100 times over. Other than that, I enjoyed this review a lot, keep up the good work!

The fail condition was a massive safe-haven being destroyed, and you can guess how I recall that.

Not only is this game worth playing if you’ve played Mirrors Edge and Dead Island, I’d almost say that its better to have played and enjoyed both before ever touching Dying Light, because then and only then will you be able to truly appreciate how two near polar opposites came together whilst never feeling wholly derivative of one or the other. Even though I like Dying Light 2 more, as it feels like they took what worked great in the first one and made it even better (plus Aiden is an amazing character) , the first game is will always have a special place for my heart. Excited to watch this!

After playing Dying Light 2 and liking that game more the first one I’ve decided to give Dying Light 1 again hopefully I’ll like this time around.

The grappling hook is infinitely usable at late game because you can carry four of them, each with their own recharge counter that continues to recharge even when it is not equipped. So, to break the game, craft four grappling hooks (which don't wear out, IIRC), equip them to each slot, and use your first until it is empty and begins to recharge, then switch to grapple number 2, then 3, then 4. By the time you get back to 1, it will be recharged, and probably has been for a several seconds already. Voila. You are spiderman.
