I vote Yes for a more detailed nut slotting video. I like to see as many different takes on this subject as I can. Great teaching style, BTW.

I second that. It's been almost a year. Do the video please.

Hey Dylan, thanks for taking the time to put out all the videos you have and letting people know if you're giving an opinion or a fact. There's a lot of completely wrong/bad information out there and it's nice to be able to watch any video you put out and not question your answers. What is your opinion on adding a 0 fret to a guitar without one to begin with, or why they are used by some and not others? Also, if compensated nuts don't make very much sense when you look at how they are changing the way that string is sitting, why do they work? Thanks.

You're answering a question I asked you about what sould be the depth of the strings in the nut. You tell the same thing I was thinking. Good.

There are great brass adjustable nuts which are a huge upgrade to any guitar. The one I've bough has a screw per string to adjust the height of each string individually. To me it solved all buzz, tuning and intonation issues.

100% agree that the "half string must be out of the nut" is dangerous and useless if you cut the slots properly. However I don't agree that you measure the distance without taking away the bridge action and neck relief out of the equation: this is done very simply by fretting the string at the 3rd fret when checking the nut height. There is a PRS video about that. Of course you must have different references in terms of distance, but I believe that is more accurate because your measure will not be influenced by bridge action and neck relief, you will only be analyzing and working on the drop in height from the nut to the first fret.

GREAT videos! One vote for the detailed videos from me (not sure if you already did)! Are the 'compensated' nuts available just a gimmick? They typically have a little notch cut out of one of the string grooves on the fretboard side. Very informative!

Buzz = dissipated or lost energy. One of those, why didn't I think of that moments. Thanks.

Do you have a recommendation for nut files for set ups? What are you using in this video?
@MrSprintcat6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. One question. If you are using string trees would we make the angle in the nut go towards the tree ?

MrSprintcat yes! Exactly

Can you post links to the tools you have out there? I need a kerf saw, feeler, fret wire templates, a source for nuts (probably graphite because i need a black one to match the look), sized nut files as you mentioned, etc. looks like you have a blue case full of tools. Would love an all in one kit for the files and such. Not sure if sam ash or sweetwater or someone like that has all this stuff, or if you got it all on amazon, but shopping options on amazon or alibaba makes my head spin.

If you use the Stew Mac nut files and you only have .10 through .42 gauge! Do they work for 9s and 10s? Because on there website is shows they are for both 9s and 10s
