The british satire scene of the 1960`s would have been tailor made for him- and easy money too. Shame he never got there. He would have shared a few whiskies with peter cook and company i think...

This is good but a better version is, with most of the observations, delivered as a story. Begins with the poet's book having been chosen 'Book Society Choice of the Month' with a function at which washing sherry is served. Then he is whisked off to the US, where he is served vast amounts of Dry Martini, to stumble onto the stage barely coherent. The same observations are made about the whole industry, and it ends with his disillusionment, and eventual return journey, where he cuts himself using a newly acquired safety razor, tended to by sniggering cabin boys. Can't find that version anywhere.
