The amount of reclaiming discarded resources, up-cycling worn out materials, and re- purposing that went into this project while maintaining the cultural integrity of the struggle is absolutely amazing. Thank you for sharing. ❤
Not a screw or nail anywhere, and only one power tool, absolutely superb craftsmanship and absolutely beautiful. Love that despite how advanced Japanese are, they still respect and embrace the old ways and try their best to keep them alive. Loved the long overview of the entire process, but could you now put together similar with all the different joints used, some I had not seen before.
It’s always amazing to see Japanese joinery in action. As a very amateur wood worker, I can’t comprehend how difficult it must be to cut those joints to repair the posts!!! Fantastic!
This is truly what i would like to do in life. You both are excellent craftsmen, the work speaks for itself. Currently learning Japanese so I can eventually live there and work in the community.

This compilation video was truly remarkable. I have been an admirer of your journey for quite a while, and I thoroughly appreciated watching this video. As a professional in historical restoration and a practicing Timberwright [ 大木匠 ], it fills me with immense satisfaction to witness the younger generation engaging in such meaningful projects.
Such a blessing to see how the work was done with such reverence and respect for tradition and natural materials. Well done by all involved and many thanks for taking the time to share with us. from a retired carpenter and architect.
Love seeing the older generation coming in to renovate and applying their crafstmanship. I simply love seeing the joinery being applied to this house, simply incredible work
You can always break and throw away, but making and restoring are different things. You are great guys.

Well done. Great work! 👍🏾😎 says a german joiner/carpenter/architect. I love it when old material ist reused for new purposes and old traditonal craftship is handed over to new generations instead of getting lost. 🙂

Takes a gifted craftsmen to renovate a structure to it's former glory. I believe that you guys took it a step further and well surpassed the original with your repairs. Amazing work!
What I love about these projects is the community or friends helping out those in need. Also, so much of the old construction was reused. The materials were great quality and could still be used many decades later.

I wish there was more of this here in America. I can imagine the social and community good it would do. imagine you helped build half the houses on your street, and knew the people who lived there and had shared meals with them. You'd be a lot less likely to shoot the place up, because you'd have become friends with them all.

What an encouragement to see this posted today. Dylan...thank you so much for sharing your experiences and experience with us all. This process, approached with such respect for the place, its history, and just the process itself has been such a blessing to me and all your other followers. It's all just something I feel that the common western mind can wrap itself around easily. Here, too many people only see how much cheaper it is to replace with no consideration for what's lost in doing so. The way you did this allows everyone who had a hand in this place before, to live on, joined with you and your team, in its preservation. As a man of faith, I pray that God blesses you in all your endeavors, past, present, and future.

Greetings from Australia. I visited Japan last year. It was an amazing experience. I went into the country side and visited places where Westerners rarely go. Japanese people are so respectful and kind. I wanted to see Japanese traditional arts. The west can learn so much from Japan. Many times the West is so rude and disrespectful and this is in so many ways that often I was very ashamed. My visit to Japan changed my thoughts.
This is incredible, the wood fittings are so perfect.😍😍😍

It's really impressive and love this philosphy of reusing / up cycling materials and others traditionnals way to make insulating with natural material. Really great work ! So inspirating.

No nails or metal studs fitting all hand fitted is a work of love and art doing this. It's longer but makes on satisfying work to see. Wish more people stateside here did that but that;s how it goes here. ReUse-Recycle-Replace never throwing away unless it's to far gone.
