Short scene filmed at a local gas station to practice cinematography. No backstory, but it was fun to make! Shot on the Canon C70, with the Helios 44m 58mm f2.8 lens. Shoutout to Andrew for letting us film, and for helping with the shoot

This looks great. Now level up your storytelling. What if, at the end, after being horrified by the attack, we were given a piece of information that revealed the girl was the real villain? Or what if we learned more about his motivations? Give me stakes, or something unexpected, or conflict. 70 seconds is plenty do do that.

What we did might not work in some places, but we walked in and asked if we could film and the worker was totally cool with it and even helped us on some BTS! How long did you take from the beginning of shooting to finishing editing ? And why did you put a book over the camera ? I didn't understand that part.
@DylanKatoFilms
@DylanKatoFilms Жыл бұрын
It took about 3 days, we shot two days, as we had to go back to get some more shots. Good question! Haha, the book was to eliminate the glare from the tube lights, it was causing some white glow leaking into the lens. So the book stopped the lights directly above me from glaring and flaring the lens. Hope that makes sense haha

Ok, I’m going to be one of the only negative comments here, but I’ll try to explain myself and give some constructive criticism. From what I read on the comments, this was a very low profile short film and you pretty much came up with the story on the spot. Ok, so the story is what bugs me the most. The situation you’re depicting here is a very serious one, an assault. Normally when telling stories like these, creators stand on the side of the victim (obviously) by showing her struggle and also giving consequences to the actions of the criminal, and here you do neither of those. We could even think that you stand by the side of the criminal, because it’s the one we follow closely through the whole film and his actions remain unpunished by the end (which by the way feels too abrupt). See, when you make a short film, you take a number of decisions that shape your vision of the story. For instance, showing the fight from inside the car, completely separates the viewer from the action and, ultimately, the struggle of the victim. Anyway, I know this was an improvised story, but I’d recommend going for lighter topics because, as you can see, it’s really easy to transmit the wrong idea (unconciously)
@hamzanasser1223
@hamzanasser1223 Жыл бұрын
Your way of explaining is good I got you and I agree with you, but I think they wouldn’t want to cost themselves effort to shoot more scenes and finish the story because there isn’t a story at all. I think they put their effort on technicalities, like sound design and cinematography, and they done it well. The main idea wasn’t a storytelling but only a try to make cinematic scene.

This is meant to be a teaser. Like the opening kill in a horror film. Dont take it too seriously, there is much worse content that is actually malicious out there. I'm more baffled at how a high schooler has a $5k+ camera lol
@sarova2000
@sarova2000 Жыл бұрын
