Ritual creepypastas have actually grown on me quite a bit out of the various generes we've seen of them. They're definitely the most in line with urban legends and we all have or know someone who had attempted a creepy ritual or tried to summon something ghastly haha.

I know this probably a mood killer, and my anger isn't on you, Dylan(im directing this to the paranormal community who got Elisa's case so tied to their community) but I always get a bit frustrated when the Elisa Lam case gets brought up in these 'paranormal' circles because people tend to leave out a pretty big factor of her case because it literally removes the paranormal theory aspect of the situation completely. But it needs to be shared because Im tired of seeing people spread misinformation about mental health in trade of "proving the supernatural" when they see mentally ill people behave and calling it paranormal. It's straight-up ableism. Elisa Lam was confirmed to have struggled with Bipolar Disorder by her parents. It was something that had led her parents to not even want her to go on her trip alone in the first place. A lot of people(coughcough nerotypicals/non BP ppl) dont think it has anything to do with this case, but it does. It does a lot. Everything we know about Lam's behavior leading up to her death(including the situation in the elevator) is to the T, a manic episode. Manic episodes can bring about paranoia, hallucinations, eradicate and impulsive behavior, and much more. No, not even the elevator issue is sure fire evidence of paranormal behavior, she hit practically every button in there and many elevators have a button you can press that allows the doors to say open a little longer, and she must have pressed it, which definitely fucked with her paranoid state even more. Which in turns increases hallucinations. I just want to preface, Im speaking from the perspective of someone with Bipolar, who has experienced manic episodes, and is quite familiar with acting the way Elisa did when I was manic. The sheer concept of becoming a spectacle on the internet for people to use to push their ideological agendas of anything such as people's desperate attempt at proving that the paranormal exists terrifies me. She doesn't deserve that kind of treatment. She should be remembered for who she was as a person, not as evidence of an urban legend. I can't imagine how her parents must feel knowing her legacy is nothing more than that. I still enjoy the video, though. I understand it was mentioned cause her case popularized the ritual. I hope I didn't come off as rude, I just want to stand up for my fellow bipolar folk who've been demonized for our condition ya know😅

There tends to be a flawed, immature media perception of bipolar disorder, especially in regards to the true nature of mania, and how horrifying it truly is - especially taking into account the psychotic symptoms. With the Bloody Mary ritual and the like, I’ve heard people often see their own faces distorted in the mirror- such as creepily smiling back at them. I believe this phenomenon happens because of a mix of the low light (using a candle with flickering shadows) and your eyes getting fatigued from staring directly at the mirror. It’s an interesting different angle to think about when considering why “rituals” using a mirror and dim lighting are so popular!

There's something that doesn't make sense to me now that I know a bit more about it. The One Man Hide And Seek ritual shouldn't work. Why? The ritual is said to originate from Japan. And in the ritual it says that rice is used to attract and feed spirits and represent innards for the doll. But do you know what rice actually represents in Japanese culture? Putrity. Rice is a symbol of purity and therefore should be warding off the spirits or at minimum purifying them. So it sounds to me like whoever created the ritual didn't know what they were talking about or didn't know about this aspect of rice in Japanese culture. (Yes I know the ritual isn't actually real and doesn't work period but I'm pointing this out as someone who knows a thing or two about Japanese culture and why if the ritual was actually real why it wouldn't work.)
