I just got 10 Dina Wakley acrylic paints today and still have the bottle of alcohol on my craft desk from when I was playing with Tim Holtz’ alcohol inks yesterday ... I think it’s a sign to try this technique!
@peaceandpaintbrushes4 жыл бұрын
Fun! Are the Dina Wakely paints fluid or heavy? I don’t know if she came out with fluid ones yet but hers are usually heavy. If so try making them fluid first with medium (preferable) or water. This technician works better with them fluid. But it may give you a different less transparent look so it still may be cool lol. Have fun exploring!!

OMG😍 I love your videos ...I actually followed along to this one ...well I got as far as the paint & alcohol lol but WOW you helped me learn a new Technique I'm soo chuffed and amazed with myself lol...OBVIOUSLY your Art work is sooo much better & popping I only have 6 colours of the dylusion paints but dont have have the colours you used so I used Custard mushy peas & peony blush lol...& iv only got the 70% isopropyl but still worked great all tho I think I used to much paint on mine ha ha coz my under colours did not come thru like yours BUT it's a lesson learnt n I'm learning as I go along....I'm wondering if maybe my gel matte is working iv got the liqiutex gel matte n I mixed bit with water like you did...I do get confused with witch medium is wot & used for lol I'm still a learner wer mixed media stuff is concerned but I had so much fun trying out this technique & you can be sure I'm gonna do it again 😁....lol...Thank you thank you so very much for sharing your videos I loves them n love learning 😁. X
@peaceandpaintbrushes5 жыл бұрын
Your welcome!! I’m so happy you are learning and that you like the video. Liquitex matte medium is very similar to the soft matte medium I was using, the only difference is it’s a bit thicker so harder to water down. I don’t think that the alcohol % is that big of a difference, it may be that you just need to make bigger puddles of it as you build your layers so that it gives space for the under colors to show through. You may just want to experiment with it, which is the fun part! 😊 I bet the colors you used looked cool like cotton candy or something lol. I don’t have those colors yet, they are on my wish list lol

You mean the transparent gel medium barrier? Yes the effect will change a bit because there won’t be anything to keep the colors separate. Hope you enjoy the Dylusions paints and have fun!

It's Beautiful do you paint a picture on it after. You do a background like that or do you just admirer it ? I love the way it looks .
@CindyLejeune6 жыл бұрын
I am new at this I hope that wasn't a dumb question. I see Jane Davenport painting backgrounds and think all of them have to have faces or something on their I need to learn more but words are enough .
@peaceandpaintbrushes6 жыл бұрын
Oh you can add anything to it. My favorite method is transferring pictures on there with gel medium. But you could do anything. Use your artistic license! Draw flowers, faces, do negative painting where your subject is the color and the neg space is something completely different, stamp on it, etc
@CindyLejeune6 жыл бұрын

FABULOUS! Loved everything about this video. Your voice over explaining your process was great! Thank you for sharing. what was the barrier you applied between the layers of dylusions?

@peaceandpaintbrushes7 жыл бұрын
+ML Lu awe thank you! I just played around with stuff and voila. I've seen people use alcohol on acrylic but not to this degree before. It creates cool layers!
@HooWnts2No7 жыл бұрын
Love it... why did you have to gesso first? And when you say binder.... you mean gel medium??
@peaceandpaintbrushes7 жыл бұрын
+HooWnts2No I gessoed first because dylusions paint dries really fast, especially on her paper and I wanted a non pourous surface for the colors to flow on. And yes it can be gel medium or matte medium or mod podge, any sort of binder. You can skip that step but it comes out a bit different
@yesabenson4 жыл бұрын
Will the alcohol react that way with other paints?
@peaceandpaintbrushes4 жыл бұрын
Other fluid paints, yes.
@katsanders157 жыл бұрын
Instead of painting the edges of my pages black, I typically use black distress ink and and if needed (which is rare) lightly seal it or spray seal it. I have a question about your gesso brush. Is it a plastic bristled brush? Can you send me a link for it? I can not find a brush, card...anything I like to apply gesso. What brand of gesso are you using? I have Liquitex gesso in white and clear, but the white is way too thick for my taste. The clear is perfect, but I need a thinner white. I can tell yours is thinner. I hope you see this and respond. Thank you! P.S. I hope you know how skilled and talented you are. Thanks for sharing with us :)
@peaceandpaintbrushes7 жыл бұрын
Awe thanks so much. I tend to do distress ink when I use inks and acrylic if I use paint. I mix it up sometimes. As for the gesso it was a thinner version, it was Faber castell. The brush is just a Simmons 1 inch flat.
@katsanders157 жыл бұрын
TheHomegrownArtist I meant the Distress ink pads ;)
@LindaRogersTO6 жыл бұрын
I just water down thicker gesso when I want a smoother effect. Works for me.
@thejournalkeeper4 жыл бұрын
Could you use clear gesso between the layers?
@peaceandpaintbrushes4 жыл бұрын
You can try bit i think bc clear gesso has a pourous surface the effect will be different. I dont know if the alcohol will spread the acrylic the same. But of course always try everhthing!
@thejournalkeeper4 жыл бұрын

What are dysillusions paints exactly is it just a brand of acrylic
@peaceandpaintbrushes7 жыл бұрын
+Raquel Embleton they are but they are fluid, really pigmented and usually on her paper and a lot of others you don't need gesso if your just painting. They come in bright vivid colors, and now a few pastels and are gorgeous!
