Yeah love my Dyna-Glo vertical smoker. I have the smaller one, unfortunately don’t really need the extra space at the moment. I have had it for about five years, and recommend it to everyone! Definitely modified thymine with gaskets around the smoke chamber, and fire box, as well as some food grade silicone. Can dual in a maintain temperature like a beast.

Great mod on the deflector. When I had the narrow version, I took one of the shelves, wrapped it halfway with foil and leaned up against the firebox opening. Temp was reliably 241 degrees for some great cookin!

Great review! I love the flame shield. Great addition with the rails for the charcoal box. I can’t believe they don’t do that to begin with. I’m still struggling with hot spots on mine.

On mine, I find putting a wide water pan on the bottom shelf as a heat shield helps a lot with the hot spots. Makes the heat distribute more evenly, and keeps the air moist, so less spritzing is required throughout the cook.

Great info. I just ordered this smoker and i have a lot of modifications I do plan on doing before I use it one it, like repaint it. I do like your idea about the reflector and the charcoal tray, great ideas. I bought a small smoking unit, no heat, to smoke cheese that I will install. I find that the Dyna-Glo website isn't very good on info, like specs. Do you know the thickness of the walls on the cookbox and the measurements of the smokebox? Some of my ideas was to install a Char-Griller firebox in lou of the firebox that comes with the unit to cook burgers and such and a Cast-Iron Propane Burner Head in the cookbox. Again great show and good info.

Thank you so much for this great video... This is what I want it for too... BEEF JERKY. Since I'm going to buy new... Would you still say to get this one... or should I buy another one like this one...? You also said it is better to have the OFFSET than the smoke box on the bottom? How much Beef Jerky can you make on this smoker? Thank you again, for sharing this video.

@@JudiChristopher I would definitely buy this one again. For the price, it can't be beat. I had planned to use this until I built a brick smoker but after a ton of cooks I have no need for another. I love it, keep it painted to keep the rust away and it's lasted. I used to hang the beef jerky, now I put it flat on the racks since there is enough space. It shrinks a lot but this will get you a gallon Ziploc of jerky in one cook. Good luck.

@@JayJenkins Good to know... Thank you so much The price on Amazon is $350. I also noticed the ones that were made a few years ago... weighed 104 pounds and the new ones only weigh 83 pound... WOW... that is 20 pounds of less steel !!! I am really excited to know about this smoker... I wanted Ole Hickory Smoker but was shocked the price of $8000. WOW. It is so silly that some people think you have to spend thousand of dollars to make great food... BAHAHAHA

The temp gauge unscrews so why tape?

I missed the obvious solution. 🤣

Without the mod you made for the fire outlet, where was the hottest spot in the smoker?
@JayJenkins8 ай бұрын
On the right side, just above the opening to the fire box

I am the proud owner of one myself now for 3 days. I am gonna do a pork shoulder for my first smoker session after I season the smoker.

It wastes charcoal. And you get a face full of smoke. I gave mine away
@danielpwalker84214 ай бұрын
Did you modify it in anyway? Before I got mine (smaller version). I modified it before I seasoned it, which included adding a gasket to the fire box, and using food grade silicone as well. My problem has never been wasting charcoal, but the box burns so efficiently. Cooling it down takes forever after my smoke.
