On some Shovelhead engines it's actually the slash that is the advanced mark so always check your Harley-Davidson service manual for your particular year and model
@itsmytimeletsgo5 ай бұрын
You are correct. That is why I always try to push others to get a manual for their bikes. Thanks for commenting.

Hey Ralph. Could you expand a little on what you mean by evo's don't like points ignition. Thanks
@itsmytimeletsgo5 ай бұрын
I have found that the Evo's do prefer an electronic ignition. The idle, and running, is a lot smoother than with points. I really do not have an explanation why exactly other than the design of the heads possibly, or cam grinds and lifts time. Maybe others can join in on why they think this is. Always learning. Thanks for commenting.
@Lanesplitter3 ай бұрын
I run points on my kick-only Evo, but I found that you need to consider all components within the ignition system for best results (plugs, plug gap, wires, coil etc). If you swap out just the electronic ignition unit, you'll probably be disappointed.

Hello again! I just installed the Dyna S on my wife's 1979 Shovelhead. Do you change your plug gap? I am still running the stock type 5 ohm coil, and Champion RN12YC plugs. Thank you
@itsmytimeletsgo8 ай бұрын
I gap them at .038" for electronic ignitions, 5 ohm is right coil. Thanks for commenting.

nice video, what advance system do you think is better , counterweight or VOES?' VOES seems to be afected by altitud and volume of vacum in the manifold, on the other hand counterweight advance woul be more acuarate because is atached to the spining of the motor...
@itsmytimeletsgo11 күн бұрын
I rarely use the VOES, on older machines (shovels and evo's) but I like the counter weights system. Unless you use the newer Dyna 2000i system where a cup is used instead of the weights. There are many opinions on both, and I am certianly no expert on that, so one has to do what they like , or think what would be best for their application. Thanks for commenting.

Does that rotor have any side to side play ? My 79 runs like crap and I noticed the rotor is lose side to side on shaft to weights ty
@itsmytimeletsgo5 ай бұрын
There should be no side to side play. It should fit snug and tight on the end of the cam shaft. Thanks for the question.

What motor is that you working on ?Im looking for rocker box gaskets and that’s the same motor please help
@itsmytimeletsgo6 ай бұрын
It's a later 92 Evolution motor but on this one I used Sportster 1200 rocker boxes (pre 2004) Hope that helps. If your motor has the ovehead breather holes (on the heads) then it is 1992 and up. If the breather hole is in the bottom of the crank cases (no breather hole in the heads) then it is before 1992.The rocker box gaskets are different for both years. Hope that helps . 78 Shovel here with a Dyna S, if static timed the way you showed is the timing all in at 2000 rpm or is it neccessary to adjust that with a timing light?
@itsmytimeletsgo8 ай бұрын
It should be pretty close. I have not reajusted after setting static timing. I have found it to be fine that way, although you could try the light if you like. Thanks for commenting, good question.

Good demo. In your opinion, is there a large difference in performance when using the Dyna 2000i vs the Dyna S? Is the Dyna 2000i worth the extra money?
@itsmytimeletsgo8 ай бұрын
The Dyna 2000i is best when you use it as a single fire application. The Dyna S is better for kicker bikes. Either will improve your performance and throttle response. Thanks for commenting.

Ralph, off topic question. I have a 1982 flh and the inner primary cracked. I see there are a couple hanging in the shop. Oem on eBay are out mostly beat and need repairs. Is there an aftermarket one that you have used with success?
@itsmytimeletsgo8 ай бұрын
Hi I cannot specifically recommend any one company or brand. Be wary of ebay stuff. Thats why I have some hanging. Got cracked cases sometimes. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

On my 98 Evo I put the Dyna 2000 ignition. It doesn't replace the unit in the nose cone it replaces the computer under the seat.,.. ... On my 1980 shovel that I bought a month ago it's got this crane ignition which I'm trying to figure out it's all seems to be in the nose cone.. but I've been fixing the wiring at least trying to I mean about 75% of it is original but the rest of it oh boy...
@itsmytimeletsgo8 ай бұрын
2000 is a good ignition system as well, wiring can be frustrating at the best of times. Crane are not my favorites, seen to many troubles with them. I'm a Dyna man.. ha ha Thanks for commenting!

Evo's don't really like points a whole lot. This motor ran so much better with the Dyna. This ignition is great for them and older shovels. Thanks for commenting!
