Nice work 👍 Have you ever used wave washers on the rocker shafts ? They act as springs & eliminate the side play throughout the heat range. I've had good luck with them.

@@kurtfoulke5130 I have tried the wave washers in the past. I my experience, they broke up into pieces. Shims are the proper way to go, in my opinion anyway. We all have different experiences. Keeps it interesting.Thanks for the comment,

Another great one Ralph. When you pulled out the torque wrench with the extension and quoted a torque value less than what the spec calls out, I tried to remember the equation in my head, and then there it was on the screen. Most people wouldn't show that. Thanks for the reminder.

Ralph, Awesome, job sir! Really was a one step forward two steps behind project. Damn, if you didn’t have to put together and take apart because of BS parts for the old the old bikes! You must have the patience of Jones! On a sidebar, I received my hand made tool from you and it’s appreciated! Thanks Ralph

Years ago I'd have customers ask why my shovel rebuild were more expensive than other models, my answer has always been, ' the only way to do a cheap rebuild is use less or cheaper parts, and do less labor', remember the newest shovel is over 40 years old!

I agree. Cutting corners only comes back to bite you later. These are old engines and need special care. Thanks for the comment.

When did you go to AMI, i went in 1982. There were a few Canadians in my class, maybe i know you, we look about the same age. Kurt was a cool guy.

I went in 1989. Kurt was a great teacher, except for his Fridays "Pop Quiz Kiddies". Great guy though. Felt very fortunate to have been there when he was teaching. I wanted to learn anout the old stuff and he taught us that well. I went during Race week, Bike week and a bit of spring break. Good times!! Came home and been running the shop ever since. Thanks for commentimg and making me rememeber some great times down there!!

Another great video thanks. I installed an S&S top end on my shovel and it’s got about 250 miles on it and this is the second time I’ve had to retorque head bolts. Base have been ok. Is that wrench you showed ground down around the edges to fit and what type of wrench do you use. Thank you sir
@itsmytimeletsgo
@itsmytimeletsgo 2 ай бұрын
Nice topend! Ya can't beat S&S. The one I use for the base nuts is ground down a bit to fit close to the cylinders. The one for the heads is a Snapon 2" dogbone type 12 point. I have a varity of homemade ones for geting at the head bolts, especially under the Carb area. Thanks for the question and commenting.
