Maybe sounds better to some, but this is no longer a Dynaco. This is not even a mod or "update" its a REPLACEMENT. Its a different amp in a Dynaco box. Put it in a corn flakes box, is it an "updated corn flakes"? Yes, it would sound better...

Correct, not really Dynaco but way better! Hard choices for some but a no brainer for me. I have done 3 of these amps so far and would never go back. I have lots of parts still kicking around from the old ones😉🤣.... To me if it comes from house of Dan it is still a Dynaco just like a new Thorens Turntable is still billed as a Thorens turntable despite someone buying the name after several restructuring exercises over the years... The question is do you want an old unreliable amp or something new that will last another 50 years???? After all a name is just a name...🤣

Pleasantly surprised. Most often when I do a huge rebuild it takes a couple of tweaks to get things working just right. In this case it worked perfectly right off the bat. Been listening to it in my workshop daily (while I rebuilt two Stereo 150s) and the 120 still sounds wonderful😉

@@josephsirois2353 and the transfomer, the original amp was never ever that good. 🤔I would actually never simply bring one back to its original configuration. Wouldn't make sense😉

@@navydiving then why did you not just build one from scratch rather than destroying a potential survivor? What a shame....This is NOT a Dynaco 120 at all....not even an "upgrade"...

Nice rebuild and video. Would attempt one myself but the chip amp is best on 8 ohm speakers. Found a completely rebuilt 120 with the van alstine power supply board with new amp boards of the original design with the tip upgrades and better transistors. The caps have also been upgraded. Any recommendations here or should I avoid.
