My god this tutorial is amazing. I have been stuck on how to properly add in gravity to a chain for some time and randomly stumbled across the video. Thank you for the upload!

Nice tutorial. I have a question, how to attach such a body to an object with animation?
@johngrey58067 жыл бұрын
This video could've easily started at 9 minutes. If you don't care about how to model the room and chain links, skip the first 9 minutes.

Love your videos! I have a request. One thing I have often struggled with is wrapping something. For example, wrapping twine around an irregular object such as a hatchet head or just making it so that any 2 objects are bound. I've found some tricks that help slightly, but always require a lot of manual vertex tweaking. I would love if you were to do a video on that subject.
@VaelekCorvo8 жыл бұрын
I just want to add that I believe my best results with the least work so far have involved extruding along paths. But my problem there is usually that if the object being wrapped isn't circular, but more flattened, the rotation eventually becomes off and no amount of tweaking seems to be able to correct it in a way that looks good. Another aspect of this is if the cordage is wrapped many times and overlaps itself, how to get a nice tight wrap with minimal intersecting or gaps.
@MHTutorials3D8 жыл бұрын
Have you seen my "make live" video ? That is the solution
@VaelekCorvo8 жыл бұрын
I have seen that video. It was helpful but very short. That has been my best result but keeping the rotation correct so that a flat cord lays against the object correctly is where I always get stuck. If I remember correctly, rotating a point on the curve did not have any effect on the extruded mesh.
@VaelekCorvo8 жыл бұрын
So I took a different approach. Rather than using a semi-flat style of cordage, I went with a twisted rope. That pretty much takes care of the rotation issues. The only downside there is that after doing about 1/3 of the desired length on just one section, I'm still at 2.3k faces after a 90% reduction, and using only 3 strands. I'll keep poking at it.

After the simulation is completed delete the history. Then you can export it out of Maya and into Keyshot

Make sure the CPU is very strong as that does the heavy lifting. As for RAM, 16 is ok but try to puch to 32 or even 64 if you can. And then the video card..... Well, you know that needs to be good.

Hi Mike. I find your tutorials very helpful and amazing. I was wondering whether you can do something on how to make a good/realistic African hair in maya and render in Arnold or V-Ray. I noticed most of the tutorials on hair that are available don't have anything about African hair. I guess it's because people of African descent are under represented in most Animation/CGI product. I have a project coming up in the next few months that require a lot of African characters with different hair style eg Afro pops, dread locks etc. I would really appreciate if you can show me how to achieve this in Maya. Thanks
@MHTutorials3D7 жыл бұрын
Hi Nerdathearts, How realistic should the hair be ? Like XGen realistic or modeled Polygon realistic ?

@@MHTutorials3D Thanks for the reply, i think my main issue is that my computer is too slow, i have built my model now placing the links manually, They don't have to move, they are for aesthetics for in the game. i tried doing it on the completed model and Maya just took a fit and closed. even if i try it how you demonstrated it takes a while for the chains to drop. thanks anyway

Hi! Your tutorials are amazingly helpful! so thank you for making them :) I have a request.. if this is possible. I have a rig that I already started animating and I downloaded a model of a necklace to use over my rig... NO IDEA how to attach this necklace onto her (the necklace is not rigged or animated) ... Hope this makes sense. In my scene Im trying to have my rig play with her necklace so I need this necklace to lay naturally over her neck... I cant seem to find a tutorial on this ANYWHERE!! okay, thank you :)

Hi Mike, thanks for all your tutorials! I am new to Maya and already I am progressing really well for a beginner! My question is: Can I use this tutorial to simulate a keychain? I have been modeling a keyblade from Kingdom hearts and wanted to add some gravity to the chain at the end but wasn't sure if this tutorial is suitable or not, many thanks!
