I was listening intently to see if I would hear a resounding endorsement for polygamy. It was interesting to hear your perspectives, but I’m not convinced that if you could choose, polygamy is what you would go for. Kudos to you all for discussing this! I’d always felt that the practice was something for our grandmother’s generation, but I see that it is still part of the society.

The anchor repeatedly said: Islam says you should love your wives equally. I don't know how realistic is that'. I want to correct that impression. Islam does not say that. Islam is the most realistic religion on earth because its laws, tenets and principles are set by God who made man and his actions. What Islam says is do your best to treat your wives fairly and justly even though you would not be able to do so because you tend to incline to one than the other. God knows your minds and when you try hard and make sincere efforts to be fair but constraint by human natural weakness imperfection as against when you are deliberately unfair. If you know you would be deliberately be unfair and would favour one of the wives over the other, polygamy is forbidden for you. Marry only one. Otherwise, you would suffer the consequences of open and intentional injustice in the hereafter one of which is to become paralyzed in one part of your body. This is the position of Islam. No human can love two people equally but can try to be fair to all. For instance, you may not like your employees or their attitudes equally but be fair to them all. Give them their dues without undue favouritism or discriminations. This is the general position of Islam in every human relationship, be it wives, children or others. Having said that, this is a good topic but discussing it without discussants sampled across different genders and religions makes it a mere parlour meeting. If polygamy must be comprehensively understood, perspectives must involve, male and female children from that family, wives and husbands in polygamy as well as leaders from Islam, christian and traditional religions. Well-done all the same!
