Dynasty Warriors 4 - Dueling Commanders

Apparently there are static duels that are available in this game against commanders. They're just hidden. One I found was Sun Jian at the battle of He Fei ONLY if you're playing as Zhang Liao. I haven't found the case of all the others.

Nice one, duels probably main thing I miss in recent Koei games. Also duels remind me of original DW, that was a fighting game.

I never would have thought I can replay classic childhood games like this on my phone. I'm trying to 100% it including the items. I still have 20 more characters that need their lvl 11 weapons.

It's kinda strange to see Sun Jian is still alive during the battle of Yiling and he has a title of "Wu Supreme Commander" despite he should've died far before Wu is hostile to Shu. Also, Cao Cao pronounce his own name as "Cow Cow"?! Wow... 5:43

That's what I like about 4. Some commanders and characters die in the Romance before some battles but they make them appear in other battles. It's not like they don't know, they just like adding What Ifs in this game. Name pronunciations were based off how you would read them in English for the old games until 6 came out.

For years I've been saying that Sun Jian at He Fei is 10 stronger than Lu Bu at Hu Lao Gate, I'm glad someone actually agrees for a change.

If you do manage to pull off a win somehow, he just widthdraws temporarily and you bypass the scene of him jumping the bridge. You do get an item and and EXP boost for your efforts tho.

I appreciate that 4 made Sun Jian live way past his historic life. Since this was my first DW I had no idea Sun Quan was even relevant in the Wu dynasty’s era until I played DW5. In DW4 you only get to fight Quan a couple times as the opposing force lol

Fun Fact In the Final Musou Mode: Yellow Turbans (which is unlocked by beating all the other Musou Modes), the Final Battle of the Musou Mode you have to kill every single officer and literally any officer on that stage can challenge you to a Duel. You have to kill Liu Bei, Sun Jian, Cao Cao, Yuan Shao, Dong Zhuo AND Lu Bu all in the same battle as well as the officers under them (or make those officers retreat). The only commander in the game I don't think you can get a Duel in the OG Game from is Zhang Jiao but in the XL expansion I believe you can get a Duel from him in Arena Challenge.

The ones done through the mod are more interesting mainly because they have titles for the Duels as if they were supposed to Duel you. Zhang Jiao by default has Great Teacher as his title on that battle.

I got this game again (dw4 vanilla) and had to ask if its possible to kill lu bu in a duel at hu lao gate (without unlimited time or ice orb spam) like a regular 45 sec duel. Cuz he seems so much easier in xiao pei

Of course it is and I don;t know why others make a big deal out of Lu Bu in that battle. Sun Jian is a lot more stronger at He Fei than Lu Bu.

Maxed ATK for the character or the Tiger Amulet? Also what levels are your items and what level do you have on your weapons? You need to have everything as high as possible if you want to have a better chance of beating Lu Bu in a Duel.

That's one of the reasons we I felt like I should make a video about these characters. Generics have lines for dueling you more than once and even lines for retreating after a defeat but you can never trigger that through normal gameplay.

It's always gonna be the Attack button so in this case it's A.
