Tip: Length of buried tail should be 72 times the lines diameter to retain more than 90% MBS. Also a smoother/longer taper will retain more strength than an abrupt one :)

I suppose this splice is in order. When I try this, the splice do not become locked. At 1:19 you pull in the ends, and from ends the splice lock. But if you pull from the rope, the lock comes apart, and it is from the rope part the later forces will be added. So to me the splice is based upon, that the ends do not slip inside the the other ropes braid.

This needle is amazing. Do you ship to Brazil? There's nothing like it here.

That's a BARDING NEEDLE. You should be able to buy from a kitchen supplies shop.

Inadequate taper of an inadequate bury. Silly clamp, which will no doubt catch, on the back of the fid. Thanks for the clown show.

My question is just how strong is that splice?

Don’t mistake this for a locked splice. It’s not. Granted, the title or description do not claim ‘locked’, but the first actions in the demonstration might lead you to believe that it is. The test tug was done by pulling the two tails and appeared locked. Nope. If the working parts had been tugged it would have slid right apart. No need to cross pierce, in fact that weakens it slightly. Just bury the proper lengths and long taper them. To prevent this splice from slipping when not loaded, add some lock stitching.

@@ridermak4111 I believe, as i did it, both directions are locked. Play with it again and youll see.
