From a guy that travels Montana's back country roads and park service roads 90% of time alone, and having to rely on self recovery methods to get myself out, up, or through whatever obstacles come across and all 4 seasons(winter ain't a joke), this whole video and product is a MUST HAVE. No more metal hooks, metal wire, or shackles to flinch when I hear a "crack" or "pop". I have my winch set up to use front or back of my truck and have enough recover gear to get myself or anyone else out of dang near anything safely and smartly. Switching to your rope and lock loop is a no brainer but also game changing. THANK YOU AGAIN. ~Dutch in Kalispell, MT

I would like to see MORR, Fab Rats, and Trail Mater try out recovery and trail rides in BSF's area. BSF did awesome tackling new challenges in Utah. Let's see how they, the Yankum Ropes, and their recovery styles do in BSF's backyard! It would be great to see the abilities of their recovery rigs out of their element and how well they can navigate the obstacles they are unfamiliar with. It would be a great event for you to sponsor and get a new market since they all use your ropes. Put up a tent at the event and they can park there when they are not recovering or trail riding. I am sure Eric can help get you set up with the big event management. Everyone may learn something new and it would be great content with your ropes on four KZbin channels.

I finished doing my rope today and it worked great. I got the yankum fairlead months ago but was afraid to try doing this myself. • The first time I went through it I put one knot in upside down, I had to keep repositioning the rope EXACTLY as it looks on the video to get it all right (a few times you flip it upside down and around without mentioning it) • I was surprised how easy my Warn winch rope was to cut with normal house scissors, I thought it would be way tougher • I had some much shorter FID needles but they still worked great • Overall, it took about 30min which includes having to redo it twice before I got it all right • Last month I went to Moab and a friend saw my winch hook clipped to my bumper and said it was in a bad place and on Fins and Things a steep descent smashed the hook a bit, now with it behind the fairlead my rope will be safe from future bashing About the only thing that isn't much better than how it was before is that putting the winch into "neutral" it's kinda hard to pull the rope out, as grabbing a big hook was way easier before, now I kind of have to spin the spool with my fingers to get some slack on the loop to get it off the side of the fairlead. But otherwise, this is WAY safer with no metal, will protect my rope much better than before, and looks amazing and cleaner now, especially with a flip-down license plate (my state requires them and I've been hassled near trailheads by cops)

@raypierce58186 ай бұрын
Selma fids are SO much easier with 12 strand hollow braids. I typically invert that loop before passing the eye through. Much easier. Make loop 1, then loop 2. Loosen the line at 2 then invert it. Pass a regular fid through it half way. Take a 6” piece of baling wire and fold it in half making a 3” piece. Pass one end through Loop 1 trapping it in the middle of the wire. Place the two ends of the wire into the fid and push it through, then pull the wires to pass the loop through the inversion. Revert the inversion and slide together. ALWAYS taper the bury with at least 6 strands. I typically taper 10. BTW, your tail should be 3 1/2 Fid lengths to maintain the rated strength which should be 90% - 100% of the original rating.

Why only 4 strands out of 12, and why not more linear taper by cutting strands at more different lengths? 8 strands at the tail end is still a large step and significant weak point.

A knot weakens the rope by up to half compared to a splice
@kourgath2 жыл бұрын
There is plenty of evidence that for this type of rope you weaken it significantly by using a knot. The taper is also very important. You can look up various tests with different brand names such as Amsteel, Samson, Dyneema and Spectra. Hope this helps.
@Dave-fp9jh2 жыл бұрын
I am sure the knot does weaken it some, but most pulls are nowhere near the breaking strength of the rope. A proper knot is a quick field fix.

NO!!! Because you have access to the other end of the tow line, you don't need to tuck the eye, you can tuck the short end and then tuck the long end. The standard Brummel lock is for when you're splicing only one free end. This shows a complete misunderstanding of the locking mechanism when you're doing bench work. I have made thousands of Brummel locks, including the flag halyard on the Seattle Space Needle.
@YankumRopes Жыл бұрын
NO!!! Because this is a demonstration on how to do this if your winch-line is already on the drum of your winch and you don’t want to spend the extra time unspooling and re spooling your winch-line adding an additional 10 min to this process. Yes I’m demonstrating this on a bench, this video is for people that just got our fairlead and already have a synthetic winch-line on their winch.
@1sailfast Жыл бұрын
Poor example- weak splice. The bury needs to be 72x the diameter of the line, and the end of the buried line needs to be tapered.
@onebadassacrobat8 ай бұрын
you should be tapering the tail once it's been passed through the core of the line. that sudden change in dia. will be your breaking point and will be your weakest area of the line now. you probably lost more than 50% of the integrity of the rope.
