Timo is a legend, his knowledge in many fields is astonishing. Most genuine sailing channel on YT, and Timo most likely the most prepared sailor out there. Doer. Bravo Timo!

I am familiar with dyneema. Like myself it is a Dutch invention. Question remains.......what made the 12mm dyneema shave in between the spliced ends?
@SailingNVАй бұрын
The UV plus chaffing on the sail and the mast when it’s slack
@gertboerman3666Ай бұрын
@@SailingNV Easy to avoid chaving on mast and sail. And I think dyneema is quite good at dealing with UV.
@davidh208Ай бұрын
That is not a proper way to splice Dyneema. There is no Brummell lock.
@petergreen3381Ай бұрын
Brummel is to hold the splice with no load it is not a true locking splice which is designed to stop it slipping under load. As long as the length of the buried tail is greater than 40 diameters the splice cannot slip under load. The sail maker's whipping performs the same function as the Brummel. Unfortunately there is a misconception that the Brummel is the splice and burying the tail is just for neatness resulting in short buried tails being used which does risk the eye failing under load
@SailingNVАй бұрын
Thanks so much for this - our thoughts exactly 👍🏻 well said
@patrickfitzootАй бұрын
@petergreen3381 I agree, I'll add that the brummel is both an awkward knot to tie and unattractive when done, for me whipping the splice looks better and takes the same amount of time for a one off(less measuring etc.
