From experience, when it comes to hovercrafts, you only ever want to go as fast as you would be willing to hit something. Cause you will. And it'll hurt. Going 30 mph a few inches off the ground, sitting on your knees is more than fast enough usually. Hovercraft are slower on water until you get over their "humpspeed". A hovercraft causes a dent in the water surface due to the pressure of the air and below hump speed it's constantly climbing out of this hole. Once you pass the speed of this wave ahead of you, suddenly it starts ripping like it's on smooth concrete. As to all those calling for massive engines, that's no use. All that power needs to be converted into fast moving air by the fan. There is a limit to how much air a fan of a certain size can move and how much power it can take before it starts stalling and shredding itself to pieces. A fan of the size on the FreedomFactory's SCAT hovercraft can probably sink no more than 40 to 60 HP (depending on optimal torque and RPM) with all blades at optimal pitch. I've ridden a hovercraft with a Yamaha FZ750 motorbike engine. That required a fan of about 1 meter/3 foot diameter with 24 blades to sink that amount of power without over-revving the engine or fan. @Cleetus, You might want to invite these guys to come rip around the Freedom factory oval www.hoverclubofamerica.org/ Have a look on their forums too, it seems several people have upgrades that type of SCAT hovercraft and may be able to provide pointers and tips

Brother...the trails in northern Michigan are AMAZING. My brother and I rode a trail system around Gaylord for like 9 or 10 hours and had an absolute blast. Beautiful scenery, great trails....overall a great time.

For those wanting bigger motor, you’d have to increase the fan blades too. There is a reason those airboats have enormous propellers to go with their big engines. Just a bigger motor will only get a percentage increase in speed. To go much faster, you have to move everything up in scale.

The engine that needs to go on the hovercraft is the 2001 Honda cr500r, has a 5 speed transmission and they used to come with around 52hp, still nice and small though and it would be a ripper for sure

I'm not sure what the bottom of that hovercraft looks like, but there's a trick we have up here in Minnesota to put some smooth hard plastic to line the inside of the thrower tube on our snowblowers instead of the steel, it makes it SOOO much more slippery for the snow to get tossed. That also makes me wonder how it would perform on snow, maybe it's awesome, maybe it's awful, but perhaps that's the secret. Get as low-friction of a surface as possible on the bottom. Or maybe a gravity-fed water leaker that makes a water layer under it at all times for maximum slippy. Lol.

The bottom is already a hard plastic, but it doesn't matter, it rides on a bubble of air. Doesn't work well on snow, it gets caught up in the bags. But it will kick ass on ice.

Most of those I've seen had a 2 cylinder engine. Stick a 503 Rotax on it and it will be faster and hover higher, should bolt right on.

I think the pitch change is what you need, the motor holds its top rpm more hp wont change a thing. My guess is some mild performance mods on the engine and a more aggresive prop pitch will make a difference.

The hovercrafts feel like you are doing 100mph at 25 mph. Wait until you are in one that does about 60 you will feel like you are doing 200mph plus and they don't have a lot of control, so be careful, ALWAYS REMEMBER, if you let off the throttle they don't turn anymore, they pretty much go straight in the direction they were going when you let off the throttle. Scary thought at 60 mph when they are a lot less stable as they are at 25 mph! Have a blast! That's a beautiful home you have there with all the land, etc! Take care and God bless you all! David

I want to see the hovercraft at the Freedom Factory. It could be used as official grounds-keeping equipment. You don't need that janky track blower fan if you have a hovercraft. Also, take Leroy to an tent/awning/upholstery person and get cloth body panels and a roof that can be snapped, Velcroed or laced on and off when needed. It would probably improve your aerodynamics.
