Nice. I use something like that for leather. You punch the hole first, then assemble the 2 pieces of the grommet in the hole, then apply the tool to crimp it together. That way it doesn't take 3 hands, lol.

For leather I can see the punch being required. The vynal queue really well.

Which way should the washer face? The concave or ridged side towards the tarp? I guessing the ridged side should face the tarp. Correct?

Sorry for the dumb question, but do you know if there is a type of pliers that hold onto that other piece so you don’t need 3 hands? Maybe a magnetic tape do hickory. I guess I could just look for one, but I find everything except what I’m looking for. Thank you for sharing your video. It’s very easy to understand for idiots like myself.

This would be a nice kit to have on hand for tent and tarp repair as well. Do they also make a kit that includes snaps?

Not sure about the snaps. This tool installs 1/4" grommets. I should think you can get about any size you need.
