Dysgraphia and Visual Motor Deficits: Part 1

When a child scores low on visual motor testing, it's important to consider the underlying issues that may be present in order to design the best intervention and create targeted goals. Understanding the underlying difficulties your child is having with writing and drawing can make a significant difference in how you approach treatment and the types of activities you use. In this video series, we will discuss 3 different reasons your child may score low on visual motor testing as well as how to address these deficits to make sure your child's IEP goals are specific and measure improvements in the specific factors impacting your child's performance. If you are a therapist, this series can help to guide your clinical reasoning when interpreting scores and designing interventions.
In this first video, you will learn how to address fine motor deficits impacting pencil control so you can help a child improve coordination and muscle synergy. Just doing fine motor activities when a child has dysgraphia may not generalize into better pencil control. These ideas will help put your child on the path to success!
