Dyson DC41 Repair

Repair of a broken part in a Dyson DC41 upright vacuum. When this part breaks, the suction does not shift from the accessory tube in the handle to the floor when the handle is reclined. I'm betting that this happens often, so I thought I'd post this video on how I fixed it.
UPDATE NOTE: I used Gorilla Glue to repair the broken part. I don't know how long this will last. I found the replacement part and it is cheaper and easier to obtain than I had imagined: search for "dyson 965201-01". It is currently available on Amazon Prime for $8.73.
This may or may not apply to the other Dyson "ball" style vacuums: DC40, DC50, DC25, DC65, etc.

Many thanks for the video. The part you fixed was not broken but it helped me identify the problem. With our vacuum the hose would not stay in brush head mode as the hose part that was being moved was too tight. If you have this problem access the connecting hose from both sides and manipulate until it has sufficient flexibility to stay in place when the handle is moved.

I love this machine! kzbin.infoUgkx8ISPQRRAfpAaX4msGjyodObTBnlj4T5g Assembly was a snap, only the handle had to be put on and it slides right in. Then a container filled with water and solution. This is not a vacumme cleaner, although the makers say you don't need to vacumme first. It is mainly for solid floor surfaces, but has a rug setting too. I have no rugs, so only used it on my pine wood floors. The machine has a mopping type rolling thing on the bottom, that scrubs the floor with water mixed with cleaning solution. A small bottle of the solution comes with the machine. Dirty water goes into a second compartment. The machine work worked quite well. It isn't very loud, and my floor looks so much better than when I mop it. Best of all, it is so much easier and less messy to use than a mop and bucket! I had a couple of things that might be nice, but not necessary. One is if the cord would retract into the machine instead of having to be managed with one hand. The other is that the amount of floor covered by the amount of solution seemed to be less than stated. But then, I might have gone over the floor more times than intended. I hope I can find the cleaning solution easily, I don't know how available it will be!

Thank you for this video! This piece on mine did not break, but having you identify it as the piece that should be moving to change the suction allowed me to see that SOMEONE sucked up popsicle sticks with the hose and they got stuck right there! Obviously, this did not allow to piece to switch hoses. Problem solved!

Thanks for commenting! You helped. My part was also not broken and I couldn't figure out what was causing it not to switch... the culprit turned out to be a Pink pen.

BTW, I just watched my own video and it's pretty obvious that it is not necessary to remove the filter itself, just the cover. But with the filter removed you can see better how the mechanism shifts the hose from one hole to the other (after you've made the repair). It only takes two seconds, and it is a good opportunity to clean the filter :-)

Looks like the part number for the Torx screwdriver set is different at Home Depot. Search for "husky 70381h". It's $5.97. But any Torx T-8 tool will work.

I have the opposite problem I have loss suction in the hose...and the motor is making a noise like it's clogged but I have checked every hose and there's nothing clogging it...could something have gone into the motor?

just checked Amazon and it looks like they no longer carry this part but a google search shows it can be found in various different places for around that same price. unless you look at Wal Mart and they have it for more than double. Great video. helped out a great deal.

Ah, I see my problem. That plastic spinner was spinning. I stuck a tool to stop it from turning, and the half popped off in ten turns. No one mentioned sticking in something to stop that spinning.

I have a question for you? Is something funny? Or are you giving maybe bad info on purpose? Im just asking because you seem to be chuckling to yourself throughout the video? I suppose its better that the actual Dyson videos tho where they try to be cute and "hip" and make a whole video demonstrating something without saying a single word... Thanks...
