The Dystopia Rising network continues to grow, too! I'm based out of Hell Dorado here in Southern California, and Rust Coast is a proposed chapter for Northern California that may be running in a few months. The Oregon chapter's first game is next weekend! There will be so many DR games to travel to!

tip about the 'making your own stuff' part at minute 1. When you paint a NERF gun, you want to open the blaster up, sand the outside of the shell and any orange bits you want painted (but leave some orange bits orange- like the trigger and the little orange nubs in the gun rails. You could go over this with some silver dry brushing to make it look better), apply a white primer, and only then start painting

I just started LARPing and Dystopia Rising WI was my first game. I play a Retro named Some-Assembly-Required (She was raised by TVs). The game is so much fun and I have met so many awesome people there. I am currently working on another character for the game. I hope you love it and enjoy it as much as I and my friends do. =)

Usually it goes by weapon. So look at the skills for those. Most starter weapons do 2 damage. Two-handed weapons do 3 damage however.

Larp Girl, how did you manage to get footage of game? I just got back from Downfall and I really want to try and get some clips to create some DR themed videos, but I don't know how to go about it... Did you disguise your camera, or go into NPC clothing and walk around OOC?

Can I just suggest that you sand Nerf guns, and other plastics before washing them, then paint them because the paint will stick better. Also use clear coat or something similar to help protect it once you have finished painting it.

"Callin' 3s" When I started, I admit hitting for basically an extra hit for every flurry was nice. Then my friend (character named Jedediah) told me about a local natural one whose throwing weapons dealt 14 per hit and standard swung for 30 o.O

Some people IG are so powerful! My character started with a two-handed weapon (which deals threes) and I thought I was hot stuff... until one of my friends nearly died because another character had a weapon that dealt 9 Body! I avoided that character the rest of the game. XD

You should come out to DR: Fields of Iron (Indiana) if you can. Some of our players were there. Most of them you caught on tape. :) Pure Bloods do VERY well In FoI.

Are there detailed explanations of the different strains in Dystopia Rising? There's a DR branch in SoCal and I'm somewhat interested in it. So far i can't really find any descriptions of the strains

the costumes are way to clean o.O looks like it they where fabric new, in a apocalyptic world this is rather no way that would happen only exeption is that you are climbing out of a vault or smth. but even then there is to see that these are old clothes (dust in deeper parts of te fabric etc. )

DR takes place at least 200 years into the apocalypse.. the loom, is still a very useful and needed tool. Who runs around in 260 year old jeans?

+gary Well, first of all, if certain fabrics is left in a dry place, it can last a long time. Some of my LARPing shirts are made from 100 year old linen. I don't see why someone couldn't stumble upon some old warehouse full of them. But - let's say they don't. In that case their clothing should not look as if it was made by an industrial loom out of the finest threads, rather it should be wool, not poly-cotton blends (best protection from cold and rain, growing cotton and linen use up lots of space that could be used for food, and sheep are useful for milk and meat as well), should look reasonably coarse and be in natural colours (white, gray, brown, brownish black).

I believe the age limit is 16 if you have a parent's permission. But, it might depend on location. If you go to the Dystopia Rising website it should have that information. =)

Are zombies in this setting smart? They seemed to carry weapons.

+DRSNova Depend on the type of Zed. Most zed are not smart nor do they carry weapons. RAIDERS on the other hand are still living and definitely carry a myriad of weapons and items. This is a great game and i would highly encourage everyone to play. I play at the VA but moved to NE a few months ago and am trying to pick a new field

+Alan Beny Oh, I see. But...why? So they'll attack you OOG with weapons, but in-game they're scratching and biting you? That would pretty much kill my feeling of immersion. I skimmed over the rule/world book (480 pages...!!), and the setting seems pretty cool, but for me, it's still very much bogged down with too many rules. Especially immersion-breaking ones like pretend-invisibility (stealth), for example. I'd definitely try it if I happen to be in the US again at some point. And try some more dystopian LARPs in my home country in the meantime ;)

+DRSNova I dont understand the "attack you OOG with weapons" part. Ultimately the fields will provide you with makeup and white boffers during NPC to be a zombie. Zed dont use weapons, they claw and eat and phys attack you. The game is strict about no hand to hand contact and all attacks should be done using a boffer type weapon. I would say "World Book" is a more accurate term than rule book. The game is awesome and there really arent alot of actually rules outside of safety and respect. The book is mostly about the strains, professions, skills and envir. As with many things, you just have to play it and many things fall into place. Cheers
