You should totally review more LARPs!!! As it’s a semi expensive hobby, it’s hard to figure out which ones to try! I know I am super hesitant about going because I don’t want to spend $100 on something that might end up being crap! So having an experienced LAPR and content creator put out reviews like this would be SUPER helpful!

What does NPC time mean? I'm new to larping l'm sorry.
@darksteelhero14 жыл бұрын
NPC time is a block of time where instead of playing your character instead you get sent out as a variety of Non-Player characters and interact with the world as an enemy or random person in the world

So quick question as a... younger person... I'm 15, but I want to try larping it seems like a really fun experience but I nervous does any have first time recommendations for me p.s i also live in Michigan
@ryanbreden15164 жыл бұрын
Howdy. So I started larping when I was 14 and it's a bit hard to find a lot of games that allow people under 18. But some games would let you play with signed permission from a parent or guardian. Best way to find a game in your area is to look up your state or general area for games. You'll be surprised what you will find.

I know with dystopia rising specifically it's typically 16+ with minors needing parent permission but overall it just depends on what larp you go to. I know a fantasy one I used to do allowed kids as young as 10 play as non-combat characters.

@ryanbreden15164 жыл бұрын
Getting into LARP can be a bit confusing to get into a first but larp is a very open community. I recommend looking up larps in your area by just typing "larps in (state here)". If you find a game you like try joining the larps Facebook group if they have one and ask for recommendations. It sounds scary but like I said most folks are understanding

Hello! A DR Ar Player/Marshal (Guide) here if the game feels clunky it's only because we just switched to a new system from our old. Glad you had fun and definitely go back a second time because there are always the times you go and it's eh but more times than not it is amazing! However agree with you on some points. Hope to run into you one day at a DR game!

If you were ever to come to Europe for some post-apocalyptic larp, I would invite you to joins us in "bunker springs". Less fighting (because of the deadly rules), but more character interaction and mean grimy, dirty drama. Especially if you visit the raiders that life in "the village". Lots of fun.

I've been playing since before this new rules system hit and tbh I really appreciate this fresh take from someone who hadn't been playing. Always refreshing to see a different perspective. New player mods typically run on the first night, which may explain the bewing tosed to the wolves feeling on saturday. I've not yet been to DR: MI but expanding beyond the southern triangle of AR, TX, and OK is definitely on my list!

I started going to Dystopia Rising (Florida chapter/Gatorland) in October and while there are some kinks, its because the 3.0 rule set just released in 2019 and the game as a whole is trying to figure everything else. I cant speak for other chapters obviously, but I love everyone from the Florida game (and by extension a good bit of the Georgiabama game (40 Watt)). If you're looking for a good LARP with continuing plot lines, DR is a super good LARP for that because its not just one month out of the entire year. Its every month.

Did florida DR for a while. Its pretty fun, but yea the staff tends to be the problem. Especially when some of them go on power trips both as NPCs and as staff. Plus there are some larp mechanics I hate which got used waaaay too often for me liking. Mainly stealth and paralysis mechanics. When a PC does it its one thing. But when every other NPC decides to sneak around by walking right by me in stealth mode then yells at you for not following the rules when I react to your presence ( like dude can you at least try to be stealthy? You are right in front of me in the light, but fine ill ignore you) and then pops right out to paralyze me (cool guess ai don’t get to play this encounter..), it starts to smell of cheese.

I love both D&D and nerf, and let me tell ya, hearing your narration over a shot of someone shouldering a ZS RevReaper felt weirdly awesome. Btw, if you want to replicate that childlike nerf battle euphoria for very little money, go buy either a RevReaper or a Nailbiter. Not very practical in a nerf war, but endlessly fun, and they're both on sale for well under $20 for the holidays.

As for the "thrown into the deep end" aspect, most games have a module that gets run on friday at game on to introduce new characters into the game and give a feel for what to expect. Sadly coming in Saturday, you miss out on that.

Not Davvy, obviously, but you can sometimes find groups on bynightstudios.com, though I'm not sure how updated they are. You can also find some groups on Meetup and Facebook. Simply search for VtM and your city/area. My current group is on a break, but I know of a couple more around my area, and I'm pretty sure they keep FB pages.
