@@mfsebcw I managed to clear the map in under 60 minutes starting bottom right and the 2 starting ore locations are enough to build up a big enough army to do it. map is clearable with light and medium tanks. So you do not need to rush the artillery. Took me 40 minutes to take down the first spawner thing, 10 for the second 1 and 5 for the final one. As your tank numbers grow your progress gets faster and faster. For faster clears i also find it useful to hold the gained territory by turrets to free up my mobile units for the attack. As i was pushing into the 2nd one i did finally research the artillery to try it out. It is actually pretty cool and can cut the roots quite deep But i do not think it would do to much without proper unit support to take the territory because the things regrow super fast. its a cool game. Reminds me a bit of creeper world but a bit better. and yes, walls are useless, so are siloes and energy batteries. I think you need to build 1 silo if you want to go for the tech but... tech is so expensive and takes so long to pay off i would not recommend it if you wish to clear the map in under 60 minutes light and medium tanks worked for me. Cheers!

Tried the demo before watching this, didnt start in the bottom right as well but as soon as you get the artillery being in the middle is glorious when you just have to have them pick at the roots from up high while another one goes for the root much closer to the heart of it hahaha. It was pretty cool when I was seconds from being overwhelmed when a shell went and cleared 60% of the map.

@Muenni
@Muenni 11 күн бұрын
@@mikedsps It would be great if you could turtle in long enough to research tools to break out and clear and conquer some more mineral spots. Then use those to build an army strong enough to defeat the plants. For that the plants would need to be stronger the closer you get to their core. And the balancing of light tanks vs towers, and all of the expensive research has to be reevaluated.

@@Muenni I played some more today and yeah, you're completely right, I dropped my base right next to the pink flower as that is the most dangerous one and killed it very quickly then rushed down to kill the plant on the left killing that easily too. I then pushed to block the plants spread on the eastern ramp and built a defensive wall near my base. The wall was a waste of resources I think, more tanks would have been far better. The game definitely has potential but rushing is just far better.

Apparently if you place your turrets behind a wall to defend them, it royally messes up their firing arcs. If you place the turrets ON a wall (which will make them vulnerable to attack), it greatly increases their shooting distances.

They could play around with that even more and introuce more variants of these seeds/roots so that in later maps they could even generate enemy units that are aiming at you base or that those seeds can evolve over a certain time and getting stronger and become even bigger thread and so on. ^^

Which is interesting because since they don't overlap, in the example above, you could try to use forces to push back the red creep so that the green creep fills in and expands further north, removing the threat of enemy turrets on your base, allowing you to then focus on expanding south so that you can eventually amass enough forces to clear the map. Basically "gardening" the different creeps becomes a strategy.

put turrets on wall so they can shoot at 0 distance. Currently artillery and light tanks are all what You need - aim artillery at trunks (branching points) while light ones form a line (space them) so they can clear creep. tanks can't shoot under themself so you need min of two with some spacing to keep assisting themself. Mines, need to be placed full-bore - i think they should also clear one tile around.

In a game like this I wishlist unit orders: attack strongest, attack closest, attack toughest, attack most damaged, attack densest collection etc. If you could set your mediums to attack strongest while your lights attack closest and artillery attack densest, you'd have a quite capable strikeforce with minimal micro.

Green creep is more durable but doesnt attack, Pink is the opposite. Also destroying the main veins/trunks instantly killing all calyx that spawned from is quite nice touch. I like the overall idea. Agree with Splat, one charm of Creeper world is, that you are not time pressed to rush. You have infinite basic resources and finite number of special nodes that you usually need to fight your way through. The ore in this game need to be similar in that, so that a player who likes to play slowly and clear the map fully can do just that, while someone going for a fast clear score can also do their thing. Some QoL need to be added: Unit movement formations, selectible target priority. Rafineries need to suck the ore in AoE, not in square beneath them (thats a very weird, pointlesly finicky design), etc. But as a proof of concept this works for me. Hopefully they can pull this off and we get a nice Creeper world alternative.

I gave this a shot with my creeper world knowledge and had an... interesting time. Something I learned in CW is early land grabs pay off massively, with the starting tanks I was able to stonewall the enemy long enough to start spamming them out, and then equalize, then eco rush. Pink changes this, but I was able to do it on the released map by blocking the pink creep long enough for the green creep to block it off, then I only had to worry about containing the green, which 3-4 light tanks could do with ease at the small choke points. I had more problems with the green on the left hand side, but once I had 8 tanks there I was golden. An issue I have is that the power towers cost gold, ALOT OF GOLD, at 10 each it is just not feasible to build anything not immediately adjacent to your starting base. Add on the power draw of turrets and it's just too expensive to use turrets unless you start rather close to the choke point you want to use them at, and ONLY choke points are viable for use until you are floating 1000 gold. Oh and they turn off whenever you launch a rocket, so you just can't turret until late game. One exception to this is building 1 artillery tower at a choke point to snipe pink towers before they are built while your light tanks hold the line. (if you don't use the pink v green cheese) also, the refinery is useless as it only speeds up mining, not make it more ore efficient, at 300 gold plus the research cost, with only a 50% boost and only able to effect MAX 6 mines, WHILE blocking an ore spot. You are just better off building 3 more mines. Overall though I think its very promising, with the options for many challenging map configs.

- This does look good, and I agree that the vehicle focus types and mineral mechanic definitely need tweaking. I really REALLY didn't like how after the mine was tapped out there was this ring of untouched minerals in a perfect square around the mine, that should be completely changed, there should be an 'area of effect' around the mines, the old way that C&C used to do it with harvesters gathering from the field was actually one of the best mineral gathering methods I have ever seen in a game.

@@shizophim after playing the demo I understand why they did it like this. It is a lot more like creeper worlds area control. Even when the resources are used up the mine still generates a meager amount of ore. So as long as you have the energy there is no reason to destroy them. Even if not you disable them so you might reenable them later if you have. As long as your defenses hold you cannot lock yourself dead by using up all available resources as there is a minimal ore flow guaranteed. A harvester probably does not fit the game play.
@grams18
@grams18 10 күн бұрын
Yeah would be cool to have one or two refinerys and mobile harvesters that are collecting the ore and bring it back to your base. Of course all of that need proper balancing but it also adds more tension to defend more ore patches that are moe away from the main base.

12:12 thanks for the mention of actions per minute (APM) in strategy games. Keep ‘em coming, since I also want low APM where you can actually zoom out and observe for a bit. I like Supreme Commander (original and Forged Alliance, not 2) because as long as you agreed to not competitive try-hard and micro-manage air superiority fighters, it can be a slower game that about strategy. Supreme Commander 2 unfortunately broke all that with each unit including the individual tanks and assault bots having abilities that needed to be triggered, turning it into actions per minute fest.

A good start to a game, but will need a lot more added before release. On the test map, you can take the first 4 tanks given to you, race off to the first pink, kill the node right off the bat. Walls are pointless, just have a few turrets. Small tanks are out right the only tank you need, just build 20 and slowly push to the other two nodes and bam, you wipe them out. ATM, you can't build anywhere else besides connected to your base by stringing power poles, can't just place solar panels and power mines or defenses independently.
@HidForHG
@HidForHG 11 күн бұрын
I feel like it needs a 'slow mode' for the weapons when unpowered and full functionality when powered. I noticed that the walls seem more blocking than useful ALSO if they add cumulative hp for the walls so adding turrets doesn't make them a pain in the butt micro bs. So turrets with wall behind them, though they honestly need the option to turn wall sections INTO turrets too. Now if they add say hives or something that produce units as weaker but more frequent units to fight then the higher units YOU can make would have worth. Also the mines seem SO overpriced when the ore can be massively LESS than the price of it.

@BrandanLee 12 күн бұрын
This one looks like it has a lot of good potential, especially if they build on competing corporations/factions also, and some mobile units in the calyx too. Some flame throwers, I'd totally redo the resource system to be discrete nodes that are mined SCV style with units instead of big buildings, and have building be dropped in from orbit visually instead of fade in. Otherwise, it's dope.
@grams18
@grams18 10 күн бұрын
Or been build by drones or something like that istead of just blending it in out of nothing. Introducing other competing corporations/fractions would also be a nice idea maybe even make them enemys for the player too or that you can choose/unlock other fractions later on that might have other special buildings/units what other fractions don´t have. Also could imagine that you could unlock the native alien species where you have to attack and eliminate the corporations as some fun missions.

Very interesting concept that is clearly inspired by creeper world to some degree. It holds a lot of potential to become even better and more challenging. The devs could work more on these native alien seeds that grow roots and turrets so for later maps they could introduce other variants of them that could even generate enemy units over time that will actively attack your base or that they can grow other types of turrets. It would also be possible to let these seeds evolve over time so that they became even stronger and a bigger thread for you or that they have more abilitys like generate enemy units and stuff. In this demo your objective is to actively destroy the seeds + some optional goals to win the actual map but I could imagine that there could also be some sort of "survival" missions where you impossible can´t destroy some seeds and the creep but you have to last a certain time and have to collect x amount of ore etc. and than leave before you get overrun in the long run. xD That´s where the "turteling" makes even more sense cuz you have prioritize on building strong defense to last as long as possible. All of that´s clearly more balancing like Splat already said and even grow and spread rate of the seeds could vary and have to be balanced depending on what the seed´s abilitys.

I would use my artillery to clear a zone, push out with the rest of the squad and force it into submission. Kinda wonder if its possible to destroy the creep all together. Does feel like it would take a bit of micro-management though.

Getting huge Dune 2000 vibes. This looks like an awesome concept and execution. UI needs some polishing and advancement so it looks better and less "basic" and this would be a great time killer.

19:39 the AI needs to be improved: the tank getting hit by enemy turret and not "realizing" it is a big problem (causing too much micro). 27:21 Ah ha, the artillery is the key unit to clear enemy turret and chonky trunks. Wish you'd known this at the start, eh?

I think it was also a line of sight issue. The tank just could't shoot back. Don't know if it would automatically do so, though :D

Those artillery tanks still started hitting on small plants instead of trunks when they were left idle. The enemy targeting is definitely flawed.

one word: ARTILLERY ;). no way if winning without that piece of destruction :) . another good strategy is to utilize arties and cut branches as far as possible, clearing path for smaller units driving vines and trunks even further back.

I think it's a good sign that what really bugs me is a few parameters that might be personal preferences, rather than more systemic issues or a vague sense of "eh, why?"; but there are a few things that tweak my irrational irritation buttons that I hope they change: Mines should really be able to grab ore at least 1 tile beyond their direct footprint; ideally further than that(perhaps with reduced extraction speed toward the edges of their radius). Trying to extract the ore without leaving little strips and spots has me screaming inside like a suburban landscaping enthusiast with an unevenly mown lawn. Pylon/electricity ranges feel really tight. Make pylons more expensive if electrical coverage being a costly decision that forces you to think about how many tiles you can get away with; but please don't force me to build them so close together that apparently power lines are made of wet noodles in the space-corpo future. As noted; seems like a good sign when your problems are likely related to literally a handful of numbers in a config file, so do not read this comment as particularly negative; it's just a weird situation where some of the trivially changeable values they've gone with are ones that drive me nuts to an irrational degree. I could also go for a little extra range: no need to change relative ranges for things like tanks vs. spitter worms; just a modest bump to everyone's absolute range so that it doesn't look like everyone is shooting just beyond their own feet. Again, possibly just my particular mixture of loose and/or overtightened screws; and almost definitely a handful of values in some config/definition files; but has me slightly screaming inwardly.

Mentions Creeper World steals show in the comments But to be fair, Calyx does indeed look like serious "Creeper Like" business. And that is good. The way the Calyx "evolves" is pretty cool, too.

About the ore sale/rocket system; was it Dark Reign where you did that with water? Some RTS that I'm dating myself by even knowing about had the same gather-resource-to-ship-off mechanism; and I think it was Dark Reign; but I'm not 100% sure I'm remembering right.

Game needs a redesign where all of its base units are effectively mobile crawlers. That would make more sense given with the actual threat is, lower wise. Large slow walkers, that are too slow to move away from the creep on their own.

One thing i do at the start is send my 4 tanks to the purple Calyx and destroy it so i dont have to deal with it's ranged attacks. All of them are vulnerable at the start but you wont be able to kill all of them if you try to rush them.
