Very interesting drive, plan to drive the full A2 between Barcelona and Madrid in september. Nice to see that there are no more tolls on the AP-2. The drive through the desert was very nice, truly a landscape not to be found somewhere else in Europe. Visited not far away the area of Bardenas Reales, was also very interesting. Thanks for the video, greetings from a fellow roadtripper and creator from Germany!

Bardenas Reales is a place I would love to visit! It's been on my bucket list for decades. Be careful when choosing AP-2 because AP-7 between El Vendrell and Martorell is now much more congested on weekends and the whole month of August will be a mess. Otherwise traffic is fine.

Wow, that's a long way from Spain! What reminds you of that?

One thing I find interesting about this highway is that there is a lot of distance between exits 3 and 4 (47 km). Is there any highway in Europe with exits separated by more distance?
@RoadsofEuropeverreme2 жыл бұрын
I don't know. Maybe M11 in Russia. I know for certain that it is the longest distance between exits in Spain. Thanks for the comment!

@@RoadsofEuropeverreme 90km between exits 1B and 4. That's as if AP-7 exit 4 was Hostalric (exit 10) instead of Figueres S.

@RoadsofEuropeverreme2 жыл бұрын

Huh, so French motorways are overengineered? Why is that? How would you describe the US network since overengineered is obviously an understatement? Are there other Euro countries which have overengineered motorways?
@RoadsofEuropeverreme2 жыл бұрын
I think so, they have a very high design speed (150 km/h), many rest areas, lots of emergency access points but very few interchanges, and other features (for example, an FM radio station that broadcasts music and traffic reports 24/7) that do not necessarily translate into better congestion or road safety figures since these are at pair with neighboring countries. Newer Spanish motorways have lower design standards which I think is more sensible given the fact that there are no plans to increase the speed limit to 180 km/h or so.

Great drive! Does this 2-lane Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway (E27) in Japan looks like Swedish motortrafikled standard? And what do you think of it? Here's the full drive: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqWbkKSAlshra9k
@RoadsofEuropeverreme2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Swedish motortrafikleden are usually 2+1 roads instead of 1+1 with 2+2 interchanges like Japanese ones. Also, they are not tolled. Speed limits are also higher (100 or 110 km/h).
