Thank you for this important information! I was in an ebike crash a few weeks ago and I wish I had a helmet on. My bike can get up to 40mph. I don’t remember what happened but an ambulance picked me up and I awoke in the ER. I suffered a traumatic brain injury, fractured 3 vertebrae in my neck, fractured 8 ribs, fractured collar bone, almost ripped a chunk of my ear off, and multiple fractures in my face and head. I feel lucky to be alive. Be safe everyone

The colour of the helmet is also important. Generally white helmets are the safest (if used in environments that doesn't have a lot of snow), then comes bright colours like high viz. Be careful of red helmets. They are highly visible in sunlight, but as the light fades your eyes soon wash out the red into grey.

Before this video I had already ordered a full-face helmet, About 2 months ago I was riding at night in sideways rain with my headlight batteries dying on my way to work. I was on my road bike with a regular styrofoam bike helmet, because my Ebike hadn't been ordered yet, I hit a pothole the size of a large Little Caesars pizza (the ones for 5-6$) and about 3 inches deep. I never even saw it, had I not already been reaching/tucked slightly with my right arm under me because JUST that moment I REALLY wanted a drink of WATER! I would have landed face/chin/chest first going about 17 miles per hour. I would have smashed my jaw and chest so incredibly hard at that speed and how my bike flipped there is no DOUBT I would have had a life-changing injury until the end of my life. Instead? INCREDIBLY LUCKY I AM GRATEFUL FOR IT TO THIS DAY. I slammed my shoulder into the chip seal road and rolled 3 times, I SWEAR to GOD I saw my front rim/tire go completely square/flat on one side as I rolled. I went to get up after the crash and my first reaction was to use my right arm to push myself back up off the ground. Nope, wrong move buddy! My right shoulder popped and excruciating agony and pain took over for the next 2 minutes. I managed to call an ambulance, but nothing was broken, now today I have recovered full function to my shoulder but it is STILL sometimes can be really sore and hurt. Had I not chosen that EXACT moment to reach for my bottle... Jeez laweez. I don't even wanna think about it. That is the main motivator for me to buy a full face. Also, I was studying/reaching common injuries on a bicycle I discovered that when an injury IS sustained on a bike 80% of the time it involves the chin and jaw! I like my teeth and mouth. I would imagine lower face injuries are literally the worst besides brain damage/death. PS SOMEHOW my rim was perfectly fine, my BIKE was perfectly fine, but I was NOT. All aluminum frame/rims I guess "shrug". Also, I wear a neon green reflector vest and the helmet I ordered is line green with white. www.walmart.com/ip/1Storm-Dual-Sport-Helmet-Motorcycle-Full-Face-Motocross-Off-Road-Bike-HGXP14A-Racing-Green-White/504333211 This will do until I can find a shop close enough to try them on. Can't beat 60$ for that quality they are offering.

While many may have no clue what he meant when he said "personality changes" as a result of brain hit I can say that after I went unconsciousness and fell on the ground while I was standing, for several years I changed mentally and even it is visible from my face photos now that I check those years.

I was riding my Kaabo Wolf King GT 60 MPH in Denver, Colorado. All sudden a Lexus RX 350 cross and cut me off while I was on that speed. I couldn’t control my speed in that micro seconds. I slam with that Lexus. After that I don’t even know what happened. I stayed in ICU for 6 days. Thanks God! When I wake up, I found myself in taking a nap in Kenya (Africa). All this horrible story was in my dream. Trust me, when I get money to buy electric scooter, the first item that I will purchase will be a decent full face helmet.

What are your opinions on the NTA-8776 rated helmets.? I was in a collision on my recumbent trike.. A driver ran the red light while texting.. her front fender caught my crank and flipped me over several times.. If i had been one second earlier, she would have run me over. I landed upside down with the trike on top of me.. I was too weak to push it off of me, and others had to lift it off.. I sustained a light concussion... I was wearing a great Koroyd MIPS helmet by SmithOptics called the ForeFont2... i was bruised and scraped, but i thought overall that i was going to be fine... the helmet had cracked from the impact of the pavement hitting my head.. that night, i started vomiting. and got dizzy. I went to the ER to find that it was a concussion.. It can take up to 10 hrs to have symptoms of a concussion because the swelling takes a while.. I took my helmet with me to the ER.. The ER doctor said that the only reason i am still alive is because i didn't scrimp on a helmet.. My Forefront had saved my life.. I never, never ride with out a good helmet.. And i will NOT ride with friends unless they do the same.. Last thing i want is to see a friend on the pavement bleeding from his eyes, nose and mouth from not wearing a good helmet.. So i refuse to go on rides with silly people who think they don't look cool in a helmet..

Hello Doc! I’ve watched this video like 4 times! I’m new to the escooter and e bike world. I just had a big spill on my escooter (wearing an e bike helmet) and got a concussion. Just placed my order for an motocross helmet and goggles (mips, dot, ece). I wanted to find something as light as possible without compromising on safety. I also have full gauntlet gloves, elbow and knee/sheen pads. Next I need full body armour and pants! Wanted to ask for your opinion, is it enough with ce-1 protection, or should I look for ce-2 and ce-3 better? I know we don’t go as fast as with a motorcycle but I also just read a study where most motorcycle accidents happen at less than 30 mph..
@healthye-rider86513 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching, Selene! And 4 times at that! I’m sorry to hear you got a concussion. I hope you’re doing well and on your way to a speedy recovery. I’m very happy to know that you’re going to be even better protected this time around. E scooters (I’m assuming you mean the ones you stand on) require maximum protection because you’re in an even more vulnerable/unstable position at high speeds. And you’re right, most accidents happen at below 30 mph. I’d definitely recommend CE level 2 gear all around. Check out forcefield’s body armor (best you can get, though a little pricey). The cheapest option for forcefield is the full suit rather than buying each piece separately. If you get that, then you just really need abrasion resistant pants over top and/or you can remove the armor from the suit and insert it into your pants/jacket. Hope this helps!
@seleneperez73223 жыл бұрын
@@healthye-rider8651 oh my gosh you have no idea how much this helps thank you!! So I just decided that you’re going to be my “protection guru”! Haha. Perfect combo being a doc and an ebike enthusiast, and from what I’ve seen you like riding on some powerful bikes (15,000 w). You also seem like a very down to earth guy and the fact that you reply to every single one of you’re viewers speaks volumes! So I did check out force field shirts/jackets and they look super nice and of course the fact that they have ce-2 all around is perfect. What I did notice though is that they didn’t have any rib or kidney protection. I did check out some other options from alpine stars the bionic pro range and Leatt’s 5.5 and 6.5, they have great rib and kidney protectio, but only ce-1 on shoulders and elbows. So force field comes out on top of these brands right? I did live the fact that they only do body armor and they’ve been at it for 25 years. Lastly, I wanna keep picking you’re brain with this kind of stuff, would it be possible to get your email address? (I don’t have IG). I’m a massage therapist, and I support myself, so this is one of the main reasons that I need to keep my body fully protected :)

This is unrelated but somewhat related. I always suspected that OJ “violent blackouts” were due to all the concussions he got from playing Football. And I believe him when he says he doesn’t remember killing his wife. Because of all the head injuries, he probably suffers from memory loss or even violent behavior.

I wear glasses, but I haven't tried fitting the helmet with them on, since I put my contacts in when riding. BUT... As a a token of my gratitude for you watching the video, I got up and tested it out for you! And... They DO fit! I'm wearing a Medium sized helmet, and I wear thicker framed glasses. If you decide to wear glasses when riding, you will obviously have to put the helmet on first and then the glasses on after. If the helmet is fitting properly, it should be a tight fit getting your glasses on.

Excellent video. The Ruroc helmets are pretty pricey and I fully understand that you cannot put a price on safety, however, I ride an e-bike and that type of helmet is possibly overkill (pun intended) and was wondering what you would suggest for an e-bike rider?
@healthye-rider86513 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and commenting brother. I can see why you’d think this type of helmet is overkill. Full face helmets are going to offer adequate protection and a lot of riders wear them. You can find a DOT certified one helmet for a couple hundred bucks or less. You can also go for a motocross helmet, which may be lighter in weight and offer more airflow. And you’ll still have get full head and face protection. Getting some eye protection is also a good idea when it comes to motocross helmets since they lack a visor. What I do is hop on revzilla.com and I apply search filters for DOT certification, head shape, and desired price range. That’s the most efficient way to go about it. IMO, modulars are the best offering all options when needed: turns to full-face when going fast, visor(s) protect your face and eyes when needed against dust, rain, sun, etc., cut outs to place speakers of bluetooth headset, fairly ventilated or with vents closed for winter to keep it warm and cozy.

Depends on where you can ride it. On sidewalks and paths 5 to 10 mph because of pedestrians, pets, and vehicles pulling in and out of driveways. Bike lanes 20 mph, but if you decide to pull into the street make sure your ebike can match the flow of traffic. Wear visible colors, a highlight colored vest with reflectors is best for day and night riding. Handle bar mirrors, bike bag for your kit and other items.
