I upgraded the electronics inside to an AR637T receiver and Avian 45A ESC. So I decided to do a second look at my E-Flite Cherokee.
I fly mine with a 3-4s 2200mAh battery using a Spektrum NX10.
Technical data
Wing-span (mm): 1308
Empty weight approx. (g): 1550
Length (mm): 1041
Battery: 3s 2200mAh

I love the scale look of it! I wonder if it would be a good 2nd plane

Why not. It's a very good flying plane so if your confident flying go for it.

@@SunriseRCAviator i want it! But all of the seasoned Rc pilots are telling me its a bad idea and i should get carbon cub or aeroscout first...i already fly a Wltoys F949s Cessna..but its only 3 channel..im confident i could fly it but im still on the fence because they caused doubt in my mind

@@WATCHMEGOBROKE There's a big step from a WLTOYS plane to a Cherokee so a good step would be Durafly Prime Tundra or E-Flite Valiant. Two planes that can be flown slow and are really light. Carbon Cub S2 is also a fine plane.

Wonderful mate. Just have had delivered my RV-7 (similar to my Cherokee) & Valiant but I love the new Cirrus. The Cherokee, Cirrus & RV-7 have fantastic scale looks & I can use my cameras inside the cockpit (letter two) Thank you for a great explantation on this. Regards Noel

PS The plastic geared service on the Cirrus rudder failed after 3 flights, Eflite distributor replaced it but The new servos have a lug on them & the holding services plate came away....sooo frustrating. Like you, I wish they would replace with metal gear servo's. Glad the included the AR637 Receiver.

Swap the propeller for an 11x8 instead of the stock one. You get better rpm's on propeller rotation, plus it's more scale than over-sized. This is what I did to my e-flite cherokee

I have experimented with different props but in the end I came back to the stock one.

Awesome flying and landing!! So I changed the esc also to the Avian 45amp and yes what a mission to get those motor connectors connected but I used the original ar631 reciever and now everytime I power up I get 3 warnings ESC 12.3V 5.4A and 100.4F I know what they mean but why dont I get the same warnings from my rv-7 that has the same ar631. Any ideas?

I guess telemetry is setup differently on the two planes. Check the settings is my best advice. I have turned of all telemetry warnings except for a 3.5V/cell voice alert just because to me everything else doesn't do much.

According to Bellair video the Cirrus flys better in the wind then the Cherokee kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3_EfqJ9bq6MY8k What do you think, which flys better, In my country there is always wind

To me it's the other way around. A thicker wing cord on the Cherokee with greater lift and easier handling.

Hi, I have the red Cherokee - just got it for Christmas so I won't get the blue one for a while. Mine has the AR631 so I decided to take your advice and upgrade the ESC so I could get battery voltage. I managed to do it without removing the cowl. I got the 45A Avian (non-lite). I enabled thrust reverse and I get battery voltage, but only with smart batteries. I thought you could get the battery voltage with non-smart batteries too. I'm sure some of my planes have the AR631 and can do that. Do I need to upgrade some firmware somewhere? Any ideas are appreciated. - Ryan

Ok, answering my own post at least partially. I fiddled with the telemetry config and made sure the esc status was included. It has the pack voltage, smart or non-smart. But it doesn't fill up the battery icon for non-smart batteries. I'll have to look at it some more.

With non spektrum batteries you should get the overall voltage telemetry but not individual cell voltage.

@RC Thanks for the reply! Yes, I can get the voltage, just not the little battery gauge for non-smart batteries. It's all there for the smart batteries. I know, with my twin timber, I get the battery gauge even with non-smart batteries.

I did a little more checking. I have an Arrows T28 that I put an Avian in along with an AR631 and it displays the battery voltage AND the battery gauge icon with non-smart batteries on the Smart ESC telemetry page. So does my Eflite 1.2M Corsair. I'm going to try to update the firmware for my ESC to see if that does anything. I do get the voltage, just not the handy gauge that I can glance down at.

I have flown in a Cherokee with some buddies back in the day. The thing I didnt like about that classic is the flap lowering lever. Its like a parking break rod and you lift it or lower it with your arm while trying to land it. In the Cessna 152 I soloed many times, it had a cool little switch, just slowly lower it and the flaps drop down. Now that kit looks pretty dang awesome, gonna be a good flyer!
