SMART STOL PLUS 3D - ALL DAY AND NIGHT
The E-flite® Timber® X 1.2m unleashed a new era of STOL plus 3D aerobatic capability. Based on the extremely popular Timber 1.5m model but featuring a new wing design, oversized control surfaces plus a 3S and 4S compatible power system, it offered an even wider flight envelope to deliver a truly “mild to wild” experience. And in addition to the standard LED landing, navigation and strobe lights, the Night Timber® X 1.2m adds integrated high-visibility LED lights throughout the airframe that make it possible to fly pretty much any time - day OR night! It also features exclusive Smart Technology via the 60-amp Spektrum™ Avian™ Smart ESC, and the BNF® Basic version is equipped with an AR637T receiver that offers full-range telemetry including real-time battery voltage, current, temperature and more to compatible transmitters - plus reversing for special ground handling and other capabilities! Hollow-core EPO construction with composite reinforcement results in a lightweight yet strong airframe that offers the same flying weight as the original Timber X - even with the added LED lights. That also makes it capable of handling extreme aerobatic maneuvers while keeping the wing loading low for impressive Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) and slow flight performance. It's also equipped with high-torque, metal-geared servos plus the shock-absorbing landing gear of the original model so you can fly as aggressively as you want from almost any surface. You can even install the included leading edge slats for improved slow flight performance, or the optional floats (EFL5261, sold separately) so you can fly from water all day AND all night too!
eXtra LED Lights:
Embedded throughout the airframe are factory-installed LED lights that make it possible to fly all day AND all night, too! They’re conveniently powered by the 3S or 4S 2200-3200mAh flight battery, and can also be easily disconnected when flying in daylight conditions. Plus, just like the original, the Night Timber® X 1.2m is also equipped with realistic-looking LED landing, navigation and strobe lights.
eXtra Smart Technology:
The Night Timber® X 1.2m is equipped with an exclusive Spektrum™ Avian™ Smart ESC that can provide a variety of real-time power system related telemetry data including motor RPM, current, battery voltage and more via compatible receivers (including the AR637T) and Spektrum AirWare™ equipped transmitters (including the DX6e and 8e, DX6 and 8 G2, the DX9, iX12, iX20 and others) while you fly. It also features motor reversing to offer special ground handling and other capabilities.
eXtreme Maneuverability:
The Night Timber® X 1.2m features a wing design with a shortened span plus much larger ailerons and flaps, along with an enlarged elevator and rudder, compared to the original Timber 1.5m. Double-beveled hinge lines make it possible to deflect every control surface, including the flaps that can travel in both directions, to high angles for outstanding control and eXtreme 3D aerobatic capability. Pockets in the rear of the fuselage and the included optional-use steel stabilizer joiner give you additional options to fine-tune the model's performance for even wilder 3D setups - or on low rates the controls can be as smooth and docile as they are on the original so you can fly as mild or as wild as you’d like!
eXtra Power:
The factory-installed brushless power system features a 60-amp Spektrum™ Avian™ Smart ESC plus a specially-tuned motor and prop that deliver an abundance of thrust with a 3S LiPo battery, or eXtra power and vertical performance with a 4S battery without the need for any modifications or upgrades.
STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) Capable:
The wing design has a shorter span yet almost as much wing area as the original Timber® 1.5m, plus it features drooped wingtips and can be equipped with the included optional-use leading edge slats for improved slow flight and STOL performance. These features, along with the lightweight design, oversized flaps and high-power brushless power system, make it possible to spring into the air or float down to land in as little as two feet or less.

You guys nailed it on this one. The only other recent true night flyer was the radian FT. It’s awesome, but there’s only so much you can do with a 3 channel motor glider. And with smart tech, it’s nice to have it in a much cheaper package than the P-51

I found a landing gear reinforcement kit and installed it, cause I wrecked on the maiden. Finally got to fly my bird with out jacking up the gear and having to epoxy it back together. So cool, backed her out of the dessert to the run way. Then brought her down and just taxi it right of the runway back up the curb and into the dessert. Love the reverse thrust, and telemetry capabilities. Also mixing the flapperion is cool.

Yes! You can plug the flaps servos into separate channels then mix them to aileron to have full span ailerons/flaperons/spoilerons (and still use them as flaps of course!)

Not certain, I believe model has to be line of sight observable in a manner that pilot can perceive orientation.. I have over 120 hours of night (50 hrs of which ski flying) on a Timber 1.5m(origional) that I added an LED taillight to.. easier to practice landing approach and final pitch flare w/ lights on ground @ night w/slow stable flier+STOL..I have a harder time w/quads[drones] day OR night! Know your plane, have site & situational awareness & be safe you should be good. I'm upgrading to Strobon red strobes for the 2 (slow blink top& bottom fuselage) anti collision lights for safety in haze/fog as I have been seeing white tip strobes, tail,& landing lights as fog forms. Also adding a switched (to gear ch) VERTICAL to ground narrow beam steady white LED to the belly! Biggest thing is not to blind yourself w/ white lights(ie. Ldg Lts) on approach, using flaps+power helps as it will orient nose down in level flight, just fly nice STABILIZED approach on a SAFE GLIDESLOPE then slowly add power FIRST to make roundout, a steady flare just short of 3pt attitude settling w/ power will make for a greased pig slick landing, sight to behold.. the most fun you can have past your bedtime! I have enjoyed 300+hrs on the origional Timber models, 40% nite typically, and I've impressed a few fullscale pilots, safety is always paramount, and will save you from unnecessary crashes to, night flying FORCES you to fly safely and deliberately, and with the right equipment makes a great RC training aid for working on approaches/landings. If you have a simulator it may represent differently but worth a try! Best flying!

Let’s do the math associated with this new Timber. Fixed gear, which means no maintenance if you know how to land; plus 4s in addition to 3s, which means fantastic power; multiplied by bright internal lights, which means ability to fly 24-7; divided by less stress for my charger to charge up my 3s and 4s than my 6s packs; multiplied by more flying time than EDF’s, while delivering as good performance; plus high torque metal geared servos combined with oversized flight controls to give much better pitch and rolling than the original 1.5m Timber; multiplied by 3cell and 4cell batteries are much more affordable than 6cell batteries equals... A MUST HAVE!!!😁😁

Yes! The parts are interchangeable, but the Night Timber X airframe parts (fuselage, wing and tail) have the integrated LED lights in them (and if you want to use the lights you'd need to power them accordingly).

Can the wing from the Night Timber go on the Turbo Timber ?

Yes! The major airframe and most other parts are interchangeable, abut the LED lights are already installed in the Night Timber parts so you'll need to use a regulator and/or appropriate battery to power them if you'd like them to operate (the Night Timber X includes a regulator that pulls power and drops the voltage from 3S and 4S batteries to power the internal LED lights without burning them out).

It won't quite back up in the air, but you can definitely slow down the down lines and shorten roll outs after landing when using the reversing!

As of LAST YEAR: I have 300+ hours on origional model Timbers, over 120 hours of which @ night, 50 hours of ski flying off snow @ night.. confined space operation @ night.. stock planes with an LED tail light I added .. patio light LED, appropriate resistor for warm white, moderately(not blinding) bright light/not cooking light..(if it gets hot, add more resistance) works great. I am upgrading to brighter anti-collision lights from Strobon for the upper & lower fuselage, & installing a Strobon STEADY NARROW BEAM in vertical orientation to the belly, switched to the gear ch.. Ya I fly 40%@night! Calmer many times! 😎👍,😀👍
