"I'll probably never be as good as any of these guys, but that's kinda what I'm shooting for.." coming from the guy who paints like a beast! Great video as always!!

"I don't like Rockwell's style" .... What style is that?! "I paint better than you do"?! --- THIS had me laughing... so perfectly said!
@JEBavido3 жыл бұрын
Spot on! I can get lost in a Rockwell painting. Just the slight tonal change to form a wrist or a leg... he's perfection.

Arguably he is overly fussy and detailed, too close to photo realism. Because he relied heavily on photos. I prefer something more simplified, focused, expressive and abstracted like Pyle, Wyeth, Waterhouse or even menzel. Some of Rockwell’s earlier paintings are better but he became increasingly tedious.

@@reginaldforthright805 understood.. there's a bit of a constipated feel to his work, that's a valid point.

Thanks for sharing this list and your thoughts. I love Gen Orbik's cover illustrations for Hard Case Crime, his stuff is right up there with Robert McGinnis and so many other greats!

Bama’s Doc Savage was iconic, IMO. I’ve always loved Orbik’s style as a throwback to vintage pulp-novel/comic illustrations. And Robert McGuiness is top-shelf…

Who's the artist in the thumbnail?

The masterful, Phil Hale. This was a cover illustration done for Epic Illustrated, #33. The work depicts his own character, Johnny Badhair.

Rockwells subject matter was always a bit boring to me, but Eric is right when he said he is objectively an amazing painter. I saw one in person recently and its really something.

to be honest I prefer the simplification of the style of Leyendecker or Sargent than Norman rockwell. Norman Rockwell for me is the best storyteller image maker of all time, but I find his style in the esthetical not really distinguishing from his peers. But his cartoon drawing are so insanely good.

Always show the artwork of the artist.. when people show themselves because they want to be on TV or something I hate it..95% of this interview is me looking up your nostrils at your face.. not the artist and the artwork.. not good
