I know it's a five year old video but I still have the Em1X and the 12 to 100mm. I do like how the camera feels in my hand and for a camera this age also very decent in terms of features, but i just can stand the image quality these tiny MFT sensor produces, it's pretty bad even 5 year before when compare to those FF back then, so i pretty abandoned this system and never look back. I am just surprised after 5 year they still can't get much better with the latest Om1 MK II, the only difference I saw is they think they are the next LEICA and have the guts to charge us $2700 for the 150 to 600 mm lens. 😀😀😀😀😀

Fast forward a few years and this camera is a raging bargain. I'm moving to this from a Panasonic G9 and this video captures a key use case for why I wanted it.

seeing a lot of good deals on this camera. How does it hold up to a gh6 or g9ii?...or anything else for that matter. I was looking for a good travel setup for outdoor, macro and vlogging. I know its a bit big for vlog, but if its lightweight and battery life is good, it might be a winner...especially at the price. Its half of what the others are.

Good presentation, but if you are going to compare shots, it would be good if you can show standard, then hi res and repeat that 2 or 3 times. I could not tell one way or the other. Also, it would be good marketing if you mentioned what you had in the bag, the more lenses the better. If you had the 12-100, 45, 24-200, 25, 12-40 and the body, fitted in -that- bag, that would tell the size story.

Olympus IBIS is outstanding. The original E-M5 stabilization beats the Panasonic GX85 and in some ways even the GH5, which is years older. If the E-M1X video quality is as good as the GH5, it could be time to switch to Olympus for video.

@MrSpiff9

Hagen, I'm not sure but I will ask the folks at Olympus. Knowing that focus stacking usually needs to be locked down on a tripod, i'm guessing not, but they have surprised me in the past!

What camera was used to record this video? What settings? Some footage looks nervous, like AF is constantly going back and forth with the background. A bit distracting.

Eric, I try to take everyone's (who has actually spent time with the camera) comments in stride. It would be pretty boring is we all only liked the same things. I happen to think that camera manufacturers all make good products, and finding the right fit is most important for each of us. It's just really cool that we all get to create images with all this innovation available!

Nice first look! A quick note... When going from HR to normal, Oly always defaults to Full Machanical shutter... not what you should use. Always reset to Anti-shock or Electronic for best sharpness.

Oh, it's no where near the cost or size of a true medium format camera; i.e., Hasselblad H6D-400 ($48k US) or Phase One XF-iq4 100 ($48k US) or 150 ($52k US). If you're referring to the Fuji GFX or Hasselblad X1d, those are crop sensor... :-)

@kiwipics

If it's that good, why did it take so long to get one shot (oh yeah .. multi image stitching), and why such a huge body for such a tiny sensor... That size issue is what doesn't make any sense in the mirrorless arguement. Full frame refers to the 35mm analogue frame, and the M43 size sensor is a 110 analogue equivalent. Great news for Olympus owners though, and a nice looking body / spec...... And yes we know what the unknown camera is .... ;-)
@MrSpiff9
@MrSpiff9 6 жыл бұрын
In answer to your question John, it's because I'm old & slow! Sometimes I still have a hard time with the electronic shutter, as I have been conditioned to hearing the shutter click that I'm not sure it has taken the shot! And yes, I know what full frame in your context means. Actually, the size and shape of the body for M43 does make sense for motorsports and having the extreme weather sealing. When I got my first Nikkor 300mm 2.8 in the late 1970's for sports (shooting on either an F2a w motor or F with the 250 frame back & built in motor), it was a beast and thankfully the body was big enough for me to hold it. When I want smaller and more inconspicous, I can either take my MkII (without grip) or my Pen-F.

There's just so much wasted space on the top and the back. Wouldn't have hurt Olympus to put an LCD on the top and more dials or buttons on the back.
@MrSpiff9
@MrSpiff9 6 жыл бұрын
Melvin, I am happy that there isn't more buttons or dials added, as I find that the controls are just perfect the way they are in both placement and operationally. From what I know, the addition of an LCD on the top area would have taken quite a bit more space and would have not been as weather sealed as designed. Personally, I am one of those who keeps the back LCD turned in and wouldn't look at the top LCD much anyway, but I could see if someone preferred that how it might be a nice feature.
