Can I use my Canon L series lenses on M1X while maintaining the auto focus.
@Red35Photography5 жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks for watching. Well, a short answer is yes but not sure how fast. You need to use a conversion adaptor like Metabone to make it work. I don't use one but when Em1X is finally arrives (late Feb) you may see people start to use it and give more results for comparison. As of now, on EM1 II at least, it works but a little slow so for normal AF operation, it's ok but not for CAF (or painfully slow).

Been waiting for Olympus OMD 5iii faster, smaller, lighter and better in low light. Also wide angle lenses in the 45, 60, 25 millimeter price range. What micro four thirds was and should be. What the heck was wrong with the EM1ii body?
@Red35Photography5 жыл бұрын
@@lakejindsay Nothing wrong. People are misunderstanding the purpose of EM1X. It isn't a replacement. It's a pro body at a higher level. My EM1 II is battered but it's my workhorse but the new EM1X has many new features that, at least to me, helps my workflow, speed and improve accuracy. Especially for what I do. The new AF is phenomenal but normal people may not appreciate. It can focus to -6EV, CAF now works much better than before for those who needs it. the new Intelligent Subject Detection AF is sweet (though I don't use it) but I can see the potential of this feature when they open up more profiles. Handheld Hi-Res is just awesome and Live ND is fun, more like Live Comp and Live Bulb that now becomes a must have feature in all Olympus cameras. One day these features will trickle down to smaller body and the EM1X will continue to push tech forward and will continue to be expensive, like the Nikon D5 and Canon 1D series. Same for Sony A9 vs A7 too, price difference is huge but one is significantly faster and there's nothing wrong with A7 or A7R series.

For us personally, we are getting the EM1X and replacing two of our EM1 II because of a few things that will completely change the way we work. For a start, the new CAF in video is superb, way more accurate than EM1 II in video. Red35 Photography Yes, but the question is this, is it worth the extra ... for 3K, I can buy 1 G9 for stills and 1 GH5 for videos and maybe save some cash. Jimmy, a couple of the reviews I've just seen are really critical of the EVF on the new camera, but you are not. But the reviewers have much more experience with OVF's I think. Is your sample at least as good as the EVF on the EM-1 MkII? That would help me to understand what to expect. Also could this be a function of pre-production samples? Thanks.
@Red35Photography5 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, thanks for watching. Well, the EVF resolution is same as EM1 II but magnification is much bigger at 0.83 (I said 0.84 in the video). I think they are critical because they look at comparing to other EVFs on the market. It's not a confirmation but I believe Olympus didn't use OLED and higher res screen a few reasons, power-consumption, generally OLED consumes more power, it has better colours of course but at a slight cost. Reliability, OLED has shorter life than traditional LCD if you use it a lot, which a professional will, for normal people, it isn't much a problem. Then the refresh rates will not be as quick, ask any professional gamers, they still opt for 1080p LCD screens than 4K LED or OLED screens for game play due to faster refresh rate and it means, better representation of movement in 'real' life especially when 120FPS is enabled. This is critical for capturing fast moving objects. There isn't anything out on the market that approaches 120FPS (not hertz because FPS is much faster!). So all in all, I think it's a great EVF for its intended purpose, capturing actions and being a reliable professional tool.
@PPISAFETY5 жыл бұрын
@@Red35Photography Thank you so much for your very thorough reply. My only experience with an EVF is on my OM-D EM-1, and it looks just fine to me. So if the one on the EM-1X is at least as good, I think I'd be happy with it.

Like you say, It has everything except 4K 60p, but more importantly , IMO, it lacks 10 bit internal or external recording. So like the other big manufacturers, Olympus have crippled the EM1X when at this price bracket 10 bit should have been a minimum. Which is annoying as i’m invested in the system with the EM1 mk2 and previous to that the MK1, and I was seriously considering the 1X. I may still go for it, but at the moment with a tad less enthusiasm. Great review nonetheless 😊

Cheers Johnathan, well, I was a little shock about exclusion of 4K 60 especially now they have the power (dual quad-core processor). But they never really advertise this camera as a video camera and that's enough said. I think they are reserving for future firmware update and may also be for the upcoming new EM5 III or EM1 III whenever it comes. They are really showcasing AI focus and it looks promising but it's still in its infancy and will improve drastically over the next couple of generations. I am happy after testing it especially I am primarily a photographer and KZbinr, those features work great. I don't need 10-bit and also, to most people, I don't think they can tell. For me, it means easier and faster workflow.

Red35 Photography with all things considered this camera has a pretty full palette of features that the majority will never use, and some new technologies that I’m sure other companies will look at as well and hopefully Olympus will also improve upon with firmware updates etc. I’d have thought that as the target was Professional photographers who nowadays encompass stills and video olympus wouldn’t of held back on the video at all, so 4K 60p and 10bit which is what the latest competition of mirrorless cameras all have. Maybe we will see these added in the future. I’ll be getting a hands on in a weeks time within an olympus road show so looking forward to that. 😊

@@johnathanquinn9143 I think Olympus is drawing some lines here to mark some improvement in stages with firmware update and also to differentiate with upcoming models. Tracey used her 2 EM1 II all day filming and it does get super hot (though never overheat, unlike Sony), we'd filmed under bright sun for a few hours and you can literally fry an egg on top yet the camera continue to function. Tracey used her 2 EM1 II all day filming and it does get super hot (though never overheat, unlike Sony), we'd filmed under bright sun for a few hours and you can literally fry an egg on top yet the camera continue to function. This is another level so if you are one of those extreme photographer, this thing will survive. It's niche, but have a play in a weeks time and let me know your thought. I use it enough to justify the upgrade (for me) and think it's a huge improvement.
@johnathanquinn91435 жыл бұрын
Red35 Photography. Agreed. I’m primarily a stills shooter, fast moving action so the improvements in tracking, IBIS and video CAF, and the fact it’s survival rating appears to close to that of a cockroach makes it perfect for my kind of work. The sensor cooling system sounds great, along with the AI etc. Thanks for your additional thoughts on the camera, much appreciated.

Can see where price is going to be a major issue with this camera since you will be able to get a Sony with a full frame sensor for less and better under low light. E-m1X has some nice new features, but not enough to justify upgrading from my Olympus OM-E that I use now. Hopefully after this has been out for a while Olympus will reduce some of the prices on it's older models, but this new EM-1X seems to be aimed at it own separate class. Like the camera, but after seeing other camera brand reviews that are presently out, I can't see the justification from Olympus on the much higher price.

Good review as always Jimmy! =D . Hmmmm i think i will stay with my EM5 Mark II. Don't get me wrong, the AI is tempting for those who live by photographing sports or wild life or else who need speed and accuracy. It just doesn't fit my genres (portraits, wedding, sweet 17th, streets, food and landscapes). I think this camera is not for usual consumers. Even for vlogging, the size is to big and now days 4K with 30 fps is kinda old tech. Then about the size, i'm also not like it. It's true the size almost the same as EM1 Mark II with battery grips. But then again, if i has EM1 Mark II, i prefer without it. Better brings 3 batteries without compromise the size. In the end, what ever it is, this doesn't make me judge m43 is dead. I love this system. For US$ 3,000? better invest on pro lenses though or buy Godox AD400 PRO. It's more productive investment.
@Red35Photography5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Reza, respect and appreciate your comments rather than just say 'Bad, horrible, big and expensive' like most people. This camera is design for a certain types of pros and not a consumer camera which what most people are looking at it. As a pro for so many years, after a day of shooting, I can already tell the difference and advancement. I am a wedding/travel photographer too and Em1 II is more than enough for sure but as now I am on KZbin and do vlogging a lot, I do find the EM1 II is a little limiting due to the unreliable CAF, it's still better than GH5 and G9 in my opinion but the EM1X is on a new level which I really appreciate. So the trade off? size and weight which I am happy to adapt while giving me what I need. EM5 II is a brilliant camera and I love mine for travelling :) Oh, 4K 60, yes, I made that remark in this video, I was a little disappointed that it hasn't got it :(

Yes you can but you can't do certainly things that the EM1X can do. Handhold a 5 sec shots, run and gun videos without gimbal (holding in one hand). Lenses are still tiny compare to FF lenses. I am not disputing anything and I think people entitle to their opinions but I love how it performs and suits our needs for what we do, professionally. I switched from Canon and Leica FF after being a pro Canon photographer for 10 years.

It's still size and weight. For what it does and features, I am happy. I used to carry three times the weight still in any weddings and location shoots. EM1 II was superb and don't get me wrong but there are a few new features that makes me feel good and to make my life a lot easier, when I make money from it, every little helps and anything to make my life easier is worth it, still, the EM1X isn't expensive when compare to similarly specs and build will cost at least 50% more.

To my way of thinking a simultaneous triumph and a baffling misjudgment of the market. Why would Olympus prioritize the investment in bringing this to market? I can’t figure out who the customers are they think will buy this in volume. How can this compete against the xt3 at 1/2 the price?

OLYMPUS may very well be “addressing” the 1DX but that’s because they are navel gazing. BUYERS on the other hand will be comparing the value they can get from this body to what they can get from the XT3 / G9 / and it will be found lacking

Hand-held HiRes mode??????????? WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have to revise my opinion on coming out with a new top-end model. Sound quality of the internal mic is quite good, but wind noise seems to be higher than useful (even though you came through clear enough for vlogging). IBIS is impressive, and combined with digital stabilization in video the results are even more impressive. Olympus has clearly upped the game in MFT land - even without 4K @ 60 fps … ;-)

This camera is not very interesting at all. All that GPS stuff has already been put in to the Panasonic GH5. A newer sensor might have been nice. GPS yes but they didn't have Barometer or Altimeter hahah but not important if you don't use them. CAF is impressive, much more accurate and reliable than any panasonic I've tried even in video, stay tune as I have more samples coming out. You've got to try it to believe it. Yet, I love it.

thanks for the video, to be honest not a great deal of different from EM1 mkii, video, 20mp, 60fps raw, 80mp hi-res (tripod) 6.5 stops IBIS, all much the same. I will stay where I am. :-)
@Red35Photography5 жыл бұрын
You are welcome Jamie. thanks for watching! Well, to most people, yes and I agree and I have used a few Olympus bodies now and to tell you the truth, there are subtle differences between them. EM1X may look only a minor upgrade from the brilliant EM1 II which I've been using for the past two years but after testing it, I can confidently say that it's a camera for me. Yes, slightly fast, slightly more accurate and this and that but combine them all, it's a much better camera for me as a pro who use the camera non stop. I've covered over 200k frames last year and filmed everything on this channel and all the bodies (3 x EM1 II) are near their end of life frankly! So, the EM1 X is a huge boost and we are more than happy. To most, EM1 II is more than enough, hence Olympus is keeping it in the line up and not replacing it. There will be a EM1 III in the future so stay tuned.

Thanks for watching mate and with all due respect, I would disagree because with the same tech on a bigger sensor, it will cost a lot more. Look how Olympus invented IBIS and being used in many cameras now. They are pushing thins forward and Olympus isn't going to dominate the world but rather concentrate on what matters to certain photographers. I always say that there is no perfect camera, only perfect tools. Not many people get it but I've been using Canon and Leica cameras for the past 15 years and eventually settled on Olympus, which I think is great for my work. For people who needs to print big (billboard) of a fashion model, then of course, go with a medium format and no less, for certainly type of sports, FF, depending on the field you are working in. EM1X is a pro camera for a specific group of photographer, not a everyday camera for everyday photographer.

Some people are just so naive. M43 has clear advantage for long focal length. No normal human beings want to carry a full frame 70-200, 300 or 600mm more than 30 mins, unless u want to look like a garbage truck driver carrying heavy stuffs 24/7. speaking of image quality, m43 has disadvantages on short focal length,,,but for telephotos, this is where m43 shines.
@karunverma15 жыл бұрын
@@aimeecute4216 I partially agree with you. However a 24/26mp APS-C sensor gives you an approx 16mp 2X crop. In other words a 300mm f5.6 lens on a APS-C sensor gives you a 600mm equivalent M43 crop. Besides the weight advantage of M43 is negated with EM1X. So I don't see much point in this camera except for compulsive Oly fanboys/fangirls.

You did minimized the importance of the bulky size and the double weight and the 2x cost ??? All the reasons where the MFT format had an advantages are gone ??? How can you be so excited ??? Also Jared Polin just put out images and over ISO 800 it was not too good , so don't call it PRO camera , to be pro camera for sport shooting you need to have at least 6400 or better, and no grain ???? My disappointment is in the 20MPX sensor, too old and too outdated , should be replaced with perhaps a 30MP if yo want to keep up with the PRO market. The pseudo 50MPX is a joke , can you do 0.5sec or longer for landscape photography ??? I don't think so ... Now many vlogers are already saying 1KG body for $3000 is not a valid option ..... I feel that the integrated vertical grip is a mistake, many people don't use it and it would make it smaller, lighter and less expensive ... bad move on Olympus side. Also I believe that soon we will see the price to slide down , for lack of interest .... there are too many FF cameras smaller and cheaper already on the market and more is coming ... And where is EM5m3 ??? I rather see that on our market .
