If people was careful driving them and didnt just leave them in the middle of the walkway it should not been a problem i think. Otherwise i think its a fantastic idea with e-scooters and its climate friendly.

Without safety measures in place to protect pedestrians and riders alike they are a dangerous to everyone. Over 16, high up lights, rear number plates for ID, hard hats, hi viz jackets, liability insurance, MoT, well marked scooter lanes, no pavement use,max speed of 12 mph. Any more?

As long as it actually gets enforced I am all for it. People (mostly youngsters) are just being reckless, riding in pairs, swooshing around from pavement to road, wrong directions, leaving those things everywhere willy nilly left and right.

It's the people who abuse them that are the problem. I've almost been knocked over so many times. It's a shame they don't have collision detection ;)

Or maybe when you get to a place where there is no cycle path it may speed up faster than before because they know you will have to go on the road. So it may work in your favour. But yes in the UK they did become somewhat anal about riding scooters, the odd thing is that before they were popular the police took no interest in them at all, just used to pass you by so long as you were not doing anything stupid on it. And now that's pretty much come back again, that the police pretty much ignore you so long as you behave while riding it, if you don't they will clamp down on you with fines confiscation and so on. So it's in our interest to behave while riding them. As for riding on the pavement, if people ride sensibly they can be safe on the pavement, but the problems are usually the youth, so rather than tackle the problem the authorities usually just overreact and ban them. I wonder does the law include EUCs?

Seeing a grown person riding on a child's toy like that always cracks me up

An electric scooter which can travel up to 25kph definitely isn't a "child's toy", unless you're an utterly irresponsible parent.

I always felt the exact same when i seen men rife one would never dreamed of owning one but unfortunately after a motorcycle accident I need it for mobility reasons and it fits in my car unlike big mobility scooters it's a game changer for some

I am happy they are making this change. I live in Stockholm and they are everywhere and there is a lot of problems with people getting injured while riding the e-scooters. At least they are not making people get a license or some other money making system. skål!

Yeah it makes sense indeed, i just hope that people don't risk using scooters on the road!

@@BeingSwenglish Yes being on the road would be very dangerous. I drive a car in Stockholm, from time to time, and there are already people on the roads with the wrong type of vehicles. I just wonder if this will become another law that is not enforced? Keep safe if you continue to use your e-scooter.

We can only hope 🙏🏽especially if the latest proposal of making it mandatory for cyclists to display number plates and have insurance, they will have to make E scooters and electrically assisted vehicles legal. It’s just a blatant cash grab otherwise to plug the gap of people using alternative eco friendly modes of transport due to rising fuel costs
