ET's species need a connection w/ each other in order to survive. Elliot was the only human that he managed to connect with during the scene where they both get sleepy, hence it's not enough. He says "ouch" while pointing at his chest to tell Elliot that he has to leave or else he'll die. To prevent Elliot from dying w/ him, ET lets go of their connection. He's revived when his family reconnects w/ him on their way back to Earth. The only adult faces we see before the house gets taken over were the mom's and the people on TV.

The candy Elliott shared with ET was Reese's Pieces. The production company originally wanted to use M&M's but M&M/Mars turned them down. So, they went to Hershey and went with Reese's Pieces. The movie ended up being the highest grossing film of all-time (until Star Wars Special Edition was released) and Reese's Pieces sales went through the roof.

The Amblin Entertainment scene logo was awesome. Happy that you watched this classic! We will always remember E.T.'s line: "I'll be right here." Drew Barrymore did a film in 1980 with William Hurt called "Altered States." In 1984, she was involved with Stephen King's "Firestarter" and in the following year she did "Cat's Eye" with James Woods. I highly recommend "Firestarter" this Halloween. Erika Eleniak is Elliot's love interest and she was a popular model back in the day. Dee Wallace aka Dee Wallace Stone as Mary was in The Howling (1981) and Stephen King's Cujo (1983). E.T has been to Earth to visit Peter Coyote at the age of 10.

the Universal Studios E.T ride is an absolute delight. also interesting is how Spielberg intended E.T. and Poltergeist to be basically mirror images of eachother theme-wise; in both movies, average suburbanites encounter something beyond their understanding. in ET it's something benign and in Poltergeist it's something evil and dangerous

@mark tamayo I have heard that the only reason ET is still at Orlando is bc Spielberg is basically forcing them to keep it. Hopefully they keep it around long enough for when I finally make my way out there. Also, Back to the Future was made by Robert Zemeckis, not Spielberg.

most alien movies do not feature the aliens having actual supernatural powers - if you think of mainstream Hollywood movies. Most "supernatural" powers seem to reside with humans that have acquired the powers they have through some accident, radiation, insect bites or genetic engineering.

E.T. has some things in common with Tinkerbelle in Peter Pan. He enables the children to fly, and he dies and comes back to life. The image of E.T. and Eliot flying across the moon became the logo of Amblin Entertainment, Steven Spielberg's production company. "Careful where you're pouring that tea." - She's American. It's coffee.

Beautiful reaction, Mary Cherry. Steven Spielberg said that Henry Thomas's audition moved him to tears and he emotionally struggled to even speak the words, "You've got the part, kid." Check out Henry Thomas as an adult in another alien movie called "Fire in the Sky" which is supposedly based on the "true" story of Travis Walton's abduction in the 1970's in Arizona, USA

Elliot was 8, I was 8 when I saw it in the movies, just found out I was a type 1 diabetic a month before it came out, it had me crying my eyes out in the theater. Someone found Henry Thomas' audition for the part of Elliot. At the end of the audition you can hear Steven Spielberg say "Okay kid you got the job." There was also a commercial made in 2019 where they got Henry Thomas back to play Elliot and E.T. comes back to Earth to visit for Christmas and Elliot introduces his wife and kids to E.T.

There is a theory and a very very plausible one at that and that theory is that E.T. Is a Jedi my proof? 1. He can levitate objects with his mind (the force) 2. On Halloween he sees Yoda and walks up to Yoda saying "home" over and over, this implies that he either knows Yoda personally or knows who Yoda is 3. He can use force heal (and yes force heal is what it's called Google it) 4. In the Phantom Menace (Star Wars episode 1) if you look it up or pause it at the right time E.T.'s species is in they're own pod in the council.

We never dissected animals, we had to buy sheep hearts to dissect, that's as much as we did, he teacher did some other organs. That was at secondary school (11-16/18 years old). Our most common use of scalpels was to sharpen/shape pencils for art class. Lots of Star Wars references in this, the action figures, the Yoda halloween costume.

...footnote: ET and his family are botanists from their home world....1982 is not really really old btw...part of the "magic" of the film is that it is shot at the eye level of a child (belt level....this is prominant in the shots of the "man with the keys") in part capturing the perspective of innocence of the kids in the film making the audience one of them.....the link between ET and Elliot was a more pure method of communication to learn and experience from each other...
