If I remember correctly, you’ll need close to 5 to 7 times the amount of nitro versus gasoline. Of course the methanol is like 2.5 times gasoline. So, It depends on what ratio is being mixed and also what the corrected altitude and weather stats of the moment are, but I’ll take a wild stab in the dark and say shooting for 4 times the fuel versus gas setup.

When I was probably about 12 years old, many, many moons ago, I had a Honda PA-50 moped. I put a piece of window screen in place of the stock air filter, cut took the muffler off, and eventually discovered model airplane fuel and unscientifically just tipped the bottle and poured some into the gas tank, mixing it with the conventional gas. It made a HUGE difference. Stock, going downhill it would top out like it had a governor, but with mods it would just keep revving. It was faster on flat ground and uphills too. I had two friends with mopeds that all ran the same until the mods. After the mods, one day we all hit the road (illegally) to go to 7-11 and I made thru a game of pinball and about half a slurpie before they got there! I never pulled a plug or touched the carb. Never hurt anything. I kept the secret from them through about a week of their badgering me and finally told them. One guy had success, the other melted a float in his carb. (Different brand moped, probably plastic vs brass if I had to guess) or he went crazy with the amount. Good times!!

Hey mate great video But you need to add castor oil to the methanol or you won't get enough lubricant on the bearings, these fuels are designed for glow ignition engines and have different fuel to oil ratio. Keep up the great videos and I suggest you try methanol again ! Also you will need a carb that is meant for alcohol or methanol I think they have different materials in the seals Also I'm no expert just a big rc and 2 stroke nut And yes I've burnt up a 2 stroke with rc fuel before, my bike was going about 60 mph then I blew the rod bearings Ahh and the smell of nitro is so amazing always reminds me of the drag strip and top fuel cars

I have done with before, you need to throw a lot more fuel at the engine to avoid this kind of damage. It will run hotter and faster, so the extra lubricity of the fuel helps, but most importantly the volume of fuel helps keep things cool

If you are running an engine on the dyno and not sure if its lean, use a small bottle of propane and give it a small toot of gas in the carb while running to see if revs up, if revs go up its too lean.

It's a quick way to do a rich test on the fly for many uses. Like a no start you can give it a chooch in the carb of gas and see if it runs for a second or not to tell if its not starting from lack of fuel or too much and has spark or not. Also quick test to see which way you need to turn mixture screws at any point before making adjustments at idle, or if main jet is right for wide open but not sure about mid range you can give it a shot at part throttle on the dyno to see if it likes more or less at mid range before you adjust the needles and or slide cutaways which are time consuming to do each adjustment on. And a quick way to find intake leaks like manifolds and crank seals at idle. I have a long 13mm heater hose on my bottle to sit on the floor and a length of 6 mm vac hose off the end to use like a wand to direct the gas in places.

Safety glasses bro. a piece of metal in the eye is no fun, and if it's not a alloy there is a very high chance the optometrist is going to be using a very simular tool to sand rust off your eye ball. if it gets behind your eye your rubber ducked, they will have to pop your eye out the socket then sand it while your awake. I was lucky and only had to have a needle in my eye to flick out the piece of zamac from under my cornea which had started to grow over it after only 24hrs. Also nitro will only burn at its full potential when the engine has a load on it. When idling you need a over rich mixture to quench the heat and keep the piston cool. But when applying a load the engine will want fuel at a exponential rate via the loading condition . Also some say nitro burns slower but I was taught is harder to light. So you need to take in to consideration of the working speed of the expansion of the combustion process, and maybe regear the bike to a taller gear slowing the piston down and giving the nitro time to expand and creat the cylinder pressure needed for the higher power out put. Remember making power at a higher rpm is via angular momentum not big cylinder pressures . If your trying to gain performance by using nitro or alcohol or both you need to change the set up so that the engine works in its optimal dynamic RPM range. Your using nitro to creat big cylinder pressures this will result in a higher horse power number at a lower RPM. Most nitro engines I work on and engineer make peak power at 6,200-6,800rpm. What I’m trying to say is that motor was turning way too much rpm to take advantage of the fuel your using . But be ware !!!! Making power at a lower rpm it what hurts parts and stress them to the max. Making power at a higher rpm is often easer on most engine parts. If the valve train ,wrist pin, and con rod fasteners are up to it.

Don't forget that every 1% oil that you add to the fuel-mixture = less combustible fuel in the fuel/air-mixture, so makes it weaker. Extra oil may lube the engine better, but it makes the engine more prone to pre-ignition. (I've melted a few pistons finding this out).

These things happen when you're innovating. Def lean on top - maybe even mid. Sucks you burned a hole in the piston. What changes did you make with the needle and its position? I'd imagine you'll need a richer needle from pwk to begin with. Or better yet, make your own! Also, why not put an air filter on it? Will def help with the lean issues. Are you jetting for no air filter just for max HP on the dyno? Anyway, i hope you stay with it - love the engineering. I'm Interested to see how this project turns out.

I notice on your table NGK BR10 EG plug box. That's a resister plug. As a Powerdynamo happy customer; I/we don't use resister plugs at all. I humbly suggest that resister is not necessary nor desireable in your application. There is literally a resister inside the center core of the plug. Perhaps your ignition can take it; but I suggest that it's not conducive with outright absolute power. Which after-all ; isn't that what you/we are about ?. Anyway I bet the Dutch guys aren't using resister plugs. Bet my bottom Kroner !! :)

The cylinder and head gaskets are new. It will start fist kick. My hunch is that it is too lean or I have an or leak somewhere. Sound good? What's a good rule for the fuel or screw mixture setting? The exhaust system has a huge leak until tomorrow could the improper "ping" be throwing off the fuel? Sucking air back in through the gap?

I be glad you find the way the proper "plug" thought it was called sparkle but ... With two stroke running with high compression ratio, which mean small combustion chambers the place, sense, and qualities the sparkle plug appears to be a kind a limit ... I do think that due to dynamics the fluids in the chambers the sparkle should not be directed from up to down but laterally ... But finding spark plugs to re-built using a water cooled engine must be more difficult than for the air cooled ones, but don't change the manufacturer products "offers" ... And it's not only some two strokes concerned matter but obviously a kindan "industrial" way of thinking limit ... No oil any to avoid frictions in the spirits used ?
@2STROKESTUFFING7 жыл бұрын
+Brice Larie Actually having the spark plug bang in the middle is ideal - equal distance from bore, squishband, chamber edge etc. Shortest possible distance for the flame front to travel in any direction - higher resistance to detonation. No worries, I'm running 15% oil(not by choice, the RC fuel is premixed).
@bricelarie65277 жыл бұрын
2STROKE STUFFING I do not, By choice or ways to think, Mine is closer to the intake the fresh gases than the exhaust ... It's a temp matter, and the up the piston is work leading the exploding gases from intake to exhaust in creating like a "water" drop on it up ... There's no way you start on classic fuels then once in temp slowly change the mix the engine use ? However nice configuration ... A bit a work done, even if it not always runs as "asked" ...

Saluti Diego ITALY

How much horse power? Whole bike looks dangerous, but the engine itself looks tiny??
@2STROKESTUFFING7 жыл бұрын
+Chris It's a tiny engine, 50cc. Best so far is 17.4 wheel hp with belt slip. There's uncertainty around transmission loss of the variator, but judging by how warm it gets(the belt even started smoking on the 17.4 pull) it's pretty inefficient. I estimate crank power to be around 22-24hp.

not that this has anything to do with your lean vs rich situation have you thought of trying any other carbs or fuel injection in the quest to beat RvRT? The Yoshimura mjn conversions seems pretty interesting. Great work and congrats on having a kid!

Amazing video! Just being a smartass, don't mind me;) I think nitro-methane air/fuel ratio is around an insane 2:1, and methanol around 7:1! I think you're absolutely right about running lean. A gasoline carb needs not just some tuning.. It has to provide more than 3 times the fuel!;) I'm gonna watch your other parts now. Really really nice bike and video! Cool to see someone do this with the right knowledge. A little question: why is the engine moving? and what about those springs
@2STROKESTUFFING7 жыл бұрын
+DerKrawallkeks Thanks! Yep, you're right about that. It's been running good with over 4x gasoline jetting. Abot the moving engine, it's how this transmission setup works, called "single variated". As the belt moves up the variator the engine is pulled towards the fixed rear pulley. It's a cool setup cause I have some manual control over gearing with a foot lever, the downside is 0.5x range vs typical scooter CVT's
@DerKrawallkeks7 жыл бұрын
Aaah ok, very interesting! I think, (you most likely already know this) that you'll not have another problem with heat as long as you run rich enough, since nitro-methane does some incredible cooling inside the engine. I'm sure you got some of that stuff on your skin and felt that. That's really in your favor when trying to make a small engine powerful.
@adamadamhoney7 жыл бұрын
DerKrawallkeks IMHO consider running a kenosine base fuel with the nitro blend. Even in top fuel drag cars they basically diesel after the first second under loss as there is no electrode left. If possible the coldest range motocross bike plug will be the best option

Rc engines are insane fr9m a hp/tonne pov, shame scaling them up is so hard.
@potjnkye864 жыл бұрын
@@jediknight1294 they pretty much have been. top fuel and funny car dragsters run off pretty much the same fuel just a higher nitromethane content and 4 stroke not 2 and lastly use spark plugs for ignition not glow plugs and compression.
@jediknight12944 жыл бұрын
@@potjnkye86 so 4 stroke and spark not glow plug isn't a scaled up rc engine then. Not throwing shade just pointing that out the fact they run similar fuel at a different ratio isn't particularly relevant here to my point.

@2STROKESTUFFING7 жыл бұрын
+Sean Fiba I'm not sure about the nitro, it certainly adds some heat, maybe speed too. That might be the trick for safe running - tuning it so that it takes ages to warm up and clear out!

Am I mad to want to nitro fuel fog inject my 2stroke outboards airbox? Is there an issue with lubrication or corrosion? Would I even see any benefit at wot 6000rpm I’m thinking the oxygen chemically in the nitro fuel would mean more power and cooler running.

To burn nitro you will need close to 600% more fuel than gas. But where your really lacking is you need close to 60 degrees of ignition timing aka lead with 90% ch2no3 with straight meth you will need 225% more fuel than gas @ about 28 degrees lead

2STROKE STUFFING also it’s going to want 11.5 to 13:1 compression . I would keep a small carb on it and modified it to flow more fuel. When we are burning nitro in funny cars and dragster we will almost burn it one to one with Air . Your going to have to keep restricting the air to keep power out put from blowing it up
